Hi there! I am new here. Mostly lurking. While my 3 foxers were very young, I got loads of good info. I am in South Texas and I put my babies in an outside pre-release cage about a month or so ago. It is about 4'x4'x8' plus the entry area. But now I have one boy pacing almost non stop. The girl doesn't pace at all. And the other boy seems to think its fun now to leap frog over his brother at times as he paces-for entertainment. It looks as if my boys are "maturing". I planned on keeping until Spring as well due to the large cat problem in our neighborhood and there is also a mother squirrel with her two babies about the same age in the next lot (we have 2-other lot has pool). I try to give new branches and pine cones and tp rolls, toys, etc. to them everyday to keep boredom away. It doesn't seem to be working anymore. Is this a phase or should I start letting them out? I am sooooo worried about the cats. And all my neighbors have dogs. PS they are Tito, Joe, and Lucy and they are about 19 weeks oldish now??? I am looking for same advice to release or not release?? I do not want to keep as pets and planned to let out in the spring. But I feel so, so bad for my little pacer.   Attached are pics from last month and one right after I found the little loves.

You may have planned to release in the spring but they definitely have other ideas they want to enjoy their freedom open the door mom,if not there some where safer, don't abandon them you can still leave their food and keep an eye out. His instincts are telling him this isn't where he should be and life is full of fun and adventure out there. You may get other advise here but the best advise right now is what they are trying to tell you no matter how hard the letting go is. Good luck You raised beautiful healthy kids they will always remember you. :)

Do you have any relative or friend that has a better area than yours.
You can hang a squirrel box and supply nuts for them, if someone would release them for you.
Could you possibly take your release cage to a new location? I can't see how large it is, but if you could that would be ideal.
I would hate for them to be released in your area with all of the predators.

They are just adorable.

I wouldn't mind releasing my babies to a safer haven. I tried contacting rehabbers when I first found them but never got any answers. We always have had squirrels here. Most actually live in the 50' palms we have around our pool. I'm South of Houston if anyone can help.
