Rescued a squirrel a couple days ago. Wasn't equipped to treat him so he is now under the care of Karen in Sanford, FL as of last night. My name is Nick. Daughter named him "Nuts" and he is very gentle. I'm interested in getting involved in rescue and fostering.

:Welcome Nick! That was such a wonderful rescue you all orchestrated yesterday! Nuts couldn't be in better hands....just keep bugging Karen so she posts lots of pictures of him :poke:poke :rotfl.
There are probably quite a few TSB members near enough to you to help you get involved. Florida has "all baby squirrels, all the time", not just two baby seasons like we do up north, so there is ALWAYS need for helping hands. :thumbsup Also, we are planning our 4th Annual Gathering of Nuts in Orlando in February 2013, so you can come meet us in person.

Welcome! They are much more addictive than crack and it looks like you have been hooked!
This site is a post grad course in squirrels. I would advise that you just start reading - the old posts, particularly in the Emergency and Non-emergency help sections is where I would start (and did start, when I first got here). You will find photos of caging on some threads, a comprehensive nutritional section, and a boatload of folks willing to answer your questions.

Here was the setup I had for "Nuts" (Daughter named him) that I did on short notice to make him comfortable. I read that they liked nesting boxes with an old t-shirt/cloth to snuggle up with. Got a gerbil water bottle and some tropical mix bird food with sunflower seeds and peanuts. This is also what he was transported in to give to Karen.
He loved the nest box I made. I had to pick him up (he was so gentle) to get the nest box in and when I sat him back down in the box he climbed right in. I had it where I could open the top to check on him and he was quick to snuggle up... I miss him already. Wanted to keep him but I was concerned about the injury on his back and to his back legs and wanted him to have the best chance possible.
Once again :thankyou Karen. Please keep us updated on how he is doing.

He is a gentle fella.
He only bit me cause I had to do things to examine him he did not care much for,
but even at that it was not an aggressive bite, more of a warning,
and my thumb got a bit careless and was asking for it. :D
