The cat seemed like it was just toying, rather than really biting hard. It doesn't seem to be bleeding anywhere, but it seems like it can't move its back legs very well. I've got it in a box with a couple folded t-shirts. What should I do?

You need to get it on heat, on low, under half. Make sure he is in something he cannot escape from in case he regains use of the legs. It is possible he was on the ground already injured when the cat found him. Warm, dark and quiet. Hopefully someone is close enough to help. He will need antibiotics, just because of being in a cats mouth (even with no visible injuries, cat saliva is deadly.) Is he alert?

Yeah. He's looking around, but he's curled up and not moving much.

From what I have gathered reading other posts (as I am new to this as well finding a baby a month and some weeks ago) you need to keep it in a dark a quiet place which a box should do. Do you have a heating pad? If so you can put the box half on half off to soothe any pain the squirrel may be experiencing. (MAKE SURE IT IS ON LOW) If you don't have a heating pad you can make a rice buddy... take a sock and put some dry rice in it... to warm the rice buddy I can't remember if its 10-30 seconds so go 10 seconds in the micro first just to be safe and make sure it isn't too warm! Also baby motrin can help with swelling but just a drop or two to start if you have any.

Here is something I have found on a previous thread with a similar occurence (sorry for copying your words skippy but no one was on here posting and i was trying to help do a little research for the member.)

Pinch his toes hard and see if he moves his legs in response. Also his tail.
You can gently take your index finger and slowly trace his spinal cord from the back of his neck to his tail. The spacing between vertebrae should be consistent except for ones around their shoulders. It should be straight and no large gaps or zig-zag.
Sometimes just nerve damage alone can cause the temporary paralyasis and can heal with anti-inflammatory medications. Is he peeing and pooping in his nest? Peeing would be a good sign

Good luck and hang in there. One of the experts should be on shortly. :(

New development! I moved him into a little cat carrier cage we have. After a couple of minutes, he started trying to move around and look around. He's using his back legs, but still kind of sluggishly. Also making some chattering noises. Good? Bad?

Pappy, I do have amoxicillin or clavamox could this work? I am located in TN also.

(Also again sorry for posting anothers info I was just trying to help and I know I am unexperienced but I just would like to repay help that I have received on this board when Sandy stumbled into my life.)

Chattering may just be a danger call (Sandy was doing that today to a broom in her room lol) Was he trying to flick his tail at all while making the noise?

Chattering is often a response to pain. Be sure you have enough tee shirts, flannel or fleece for him to burrow under. A shallow dish if waterbisca good idea too.

Do you have an old tshirt or fleece blanket in there with him? No towels their claws can get stuck...

I'm just trying to think of some tips. Somebody with experience PLEASE chime back in! :Love_Icon

Sorry Sammysmom we had to have been typing at the same time lol... I'm glad you are here to help! :thankyou I'm going to get out of here now since their are more experienced users here to help I just saw there was no initial response for awhile and figured something was better than nothing since it is a busy time of night (at home). If clavamox or amoxicillin would work I do have some on hand. PM me and let me know! Good luck ccs the squirrelly will be in my prayers! Hang in there and thank you for saving him!

We called our local vet and they said they knew somebody who could take care of him, so we just dropped him off there. This lady from a few counties over is coming to fix him up. Thanks everybody for your help in the meantime! Situation Resolved.
