My squirrel, Peanut who is a year and a half old has managed to get into my makeup bag and chew through my tube of mascara. It was pretty much brand new and I think she has licked a lot of it out. Anyone had anything similar happen and will she be OK?? I am very worried. I have washed her face as it was black and she is eating and drinking.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you :thankyou

I don't have a clue on this. Have never heard of one eating that. Look up online about the brand, see if it says anything about toxicity if ingested. Charcoal? I am going to put a link in the emergency section to this post to get more help. Do you have a squirrel friendly vet near you in case?
Find out if your brand has benzoil alcohol in it. What brand is it?

Thank you! Yes I am actually a veterinary nurse myself and work in a vets. She has done it before but only a very small amount and was fine. This time its a lot more. I looked up the toxicity of mascara before....or tried and found nothing. Aparrently there is a lot of vegetable fats in mascara and I think that's why she likes it so much? Or she is just weird!?just worried about the amount she has eaten and this time its a different brand of mascara.
Thanks for your help :)

Hydrate seems like the way to go for most things. I don't think you can go wrong by pushing water.

Ok, here is what is in Maybelline Mascara (and probably most of them)
Mascara's ingredients typically include a carbon black or iron oxide pigment to darken lashes; a polymer to form a film that coats lashes; a preservative; and thickening waxes or oils such as lanolin, mineral oil, paraffin, petrolatum, castor oil, carnauba wax, and candelilla wax.
Hopefully the very worst will be some loose stools. Yes, push the extra fluids. (And keep your makeup bag under lock and key from now on!)

Phew! Thank you so much for finding that out! Hopefully she will be OK then... :thumbsup
I will make sure she gets plenty of fluids and cuddles.
Yes I will have to do a better job at locking it away! She seems to want it every time she sees it and I can't put mascara on while she is out because I end up with it all over my face! Ha ha.
Thank you. :thankyou

Hey again. Just realized she has also eaten a small amount of an eye liner pencil that contains hydrogenated palm kernel ! Is this the same as palm oil? As I know this is toxic to squirrels! Help!?

Oh no! Poor peaches. Glad she was OK though. It is very scary! Would hate anything to happen to her :-( I love her so much. She is sleeping now so i guess I will see how she is in the morning. Might get up and check on her in the night too. Just in case.

you should call the Maybelline hotline and ask them what is in there.
I bet they would be wondering on that one for a long time!
poor squirrel. hope that she does not get sick. These kids can get into anything if you turn your head for one second! I swear!
