Do you have a specific question? One of our members will be graduating from vet school in April. I can pass on a message to her if you like. She just isnt on this Board too often anymore...swamped with school.

No questions yet,but I thought others would like to know ,in case they would like to ask too. I am a nurse but sometimes medicine dose or first aid or medical procedure question could come up .I will let you know. Especially disease and wound care.

Most veterinarians do not treat or have not even studied wildlife medicine. Here in the NY metro area, there are less than a handful who have any training in it at all. Licensed wildlife rehabbers are expected to attend classes (state and national conferences) and study manuals on things like fluid therapy, wound care, diet and housing, etc. for the species they take in.
Many times rehabbers have had to gently contradict their vets: there is a story somewhere on this board of a Brooklyn NY squirrel who was diagnosed with "a cold" by a vet, when her sniffles were caused by severe malocclusion -- her lower teeth were growing up into her sinus cavity. The vet missed it completely. :shakehead Any squirrel rehabber worth anything knows to look at the teeth when you hear sniffles....

I point blank asked my vet what, if any, specific wildlife training/classes he had while in vet school. He said that he was required to take 1 "wildlife" class during his 2nd year and unless the individual was going for some sort of specialized vet training that was it. His degree is the University of Tennessee.

This is very common. The only way to get more experience treating exotics (especially animals like birds or reptiles) or wildlife in vet school is to take extra courses or happen to do a residency/internship somewhere where they work with such animals. I found one vet in my area that will treat my possums because her vet school in Louisiana just happened to work with possum rehabilitators. Some vets will try (which is most often the case in exotics) but most refuse to see wildlife all-together, even if they are captive-bred individuals.

Hello. I am a veterinary nurse and am happy to help with anything I can :)
I also have many years experience with birds and wildlife. I have worked in a zoo and a falconry centre if this helps at all with anything.

Yes she is. Also philomycus, although it's easier to reach her via Facebook. Let me know if you need to do that.
