Okay I tried the 3cc thing earlier (posted). We went slow, no coughing, sneezing, or milk coming out of the nose (or sides of mouth). I'm still worried that I shouldn't have went with the 3cc and I'm terrified what I call slow wasn't slow enough and they somehow aspirated?? Am I insane?? Wouldn't they have had milk coming from their noses or at least the sides of their mouths if that happened? Would anyone else be worried? We only did one 3cc syringe and then went back to 1cc for the rest and they ate those fine. I made them nap on me for the last hour and a half just so I could listen and watch them and they are breathing normally sleeping fine.

Yes. That's how we know when babies aspirate......:thinking

Okay so I'm gonna quit going in their room every ten minutes and sticking my ear in their box. :jump
With everything that's been going wrong in the last month and a half I keep waiting for the next blow which is why I think I'm so nervous. :osnap

The first time I used a 3 cc syringe it was disaster. I had both of mine coughing and sneezing, and snorting formula (no aspiration pneumonia, I was lucky) and I realized what the problem was...
Squirrels have a heck of vacuum when they are nursing. With my 1 CC syringe I had gotten into a rhythm with them sucking on the syringe and the slight pressure on the plunger. With the 3 CC that slight press on the plunger would cram 3x more formula in their little mouths. Whoops! and tearful apologies as I hang the little buggers head down and wipe there little noses with every sneeze and cough. It was a week before I tried it again and found out that not only do I need to have a slighter pressure on the plunger of the 3 CC syringe BUT I also had to keep one finger against the plunger at the base as a brake so they can ONLY take so much. It took a while to find a rhythm that worked but so far I've been using the 3 CC syringe for about 3 weeks and haven't flooded my babies again (knock on wood) yet.
I can feel their pull on the syringe through it. New syringes are really smooth working and can easily make feedings worrisome, but using one finger as a brake helped me considerably. (and my babies thank me for it!)

Try focusing your energies on what you WANT to happen, not what you DON'T want to happen. Works great. :D
Nemehoto, that was well put. We have to get used to the rhythm of each particular baby's way of sucking, and adjust accordingly. One finger behind the stopper edge is always the safest method, so they can't pull in. Also, if a syringe gets too loose where the babies can pull it themselves, throw it out.
