are you trying to treat diarrhea,
I would not use it.
Finding the cause is best advise and then go from there.
also over feeding will give wet poops..
what's up?

I agree with Jackie, we need to know what is going on before we can help. like what the baby is eating, how much, how often, and what he weighs.

I posted a thread the other day regarding a squirrel with horrible absesses that died within an hour of me having her. This is her brother,Bachita. He eats 9mls 3 to 4 times a day (rough estimate on the 3 to 4 but he's starting on skinned apples and is approx 10wks old...) Horrible diarrhea, light brown yellowish and almost like water now. Sticky matted booty and he sits in the hunched over position and squints from pain & discomfort. He weighs 94gms (2 days ago)... And I've had him on plain yogurt hoping it would help with his belly. He seems to have a hard time swallowing as he chokes on EVERYTHING =( seriously,it doesn't matter if I freaking puree the apples,grapes,anything-He chokes on it. He is even still eating off the 1ml syringes instead of the 3mls that id normally use at his size because he takes them better. I've had him a week now and who knows how long the lady had him before me but she had been feeding him & his sister KMR (that's what the dumbass at the clinic told her to feed...) Oh and he's also on .2ml of Baytril now for an absess like his sister had and its healing very nicely. I'm no "expert",but I've got quite a bit of experience under my belt here and I'm almost 100% positive Bachita has wet tail... I work at a vet clinic here in Seminole/Largo Fl but as usual the vets just do what they can and aren't "squirrel/rodent" specialists =/ I pretty much know more than they do about them... =(

is WET TAIL coccidia???
wet tail is a hamster thing if I remember right from being a kid...
sqs need sulpha based ABs for coccidia...
or he is malnutritioned and system is taxed..
have you ever seen a sq that was raised on scalded milk?..I swear this sounds as such...
you cannot keep giving only yogurt...you need to add yogurt to formula and then dilute down...
he needs nutrition, protein.

Does your employer have sqs as clients regularly?
alot of vets don't know sqs well enough to deal with big issues.
sad but true..
my vet asks me sq questions often.
Even on the vet web, not alot of sq info...
can we get a pic of the abcsess?
how many days has he been on baytril? what dose are you using?

10 weeks and he weighs 94 grams? Is he eating blocks yet? It seems like all that fruit is going to cause the loose stool not help it any. Am I crazy Jackie? :dono
Is this the one that has the abscess or was that the one who passed?

no, you are right..
this sq needs experienced help...
sounds fragile atm...
I am sad as charlotte saw my questions and logged off....:shakehead
I am willing to do my all to help her and the sq, btw.
Oasis wet tail is not a solution..it is a substandard AB sold in pet stores for hamsters

Oh dear...this one does need some Jackie Magic for sure! Please accept the help that is being offered. You may have some experience but nobody as the experience with SQUIRRELS that Jackie has. "Wet tail" is not a squirrel ailment.

Hi! No I did not see your questions and log off. I am on my mobile and I work, have kids, and care for many animals. I'm a busy person. To whomever said I have to give him more than yogurt,no he is NOT on a strictly yogurt diet. He has yogurt mixed with esbelac during one feeding a day. It makes it thicker and he enjoys it. And to answer the question of how much baytril,I said above that he gets .02mls a day. Been on now for 5 days. I also stated (may not have been in this thread though) that NO my vets DON'T see too manysquirrels,I'm the person they usually come too but the vet at my work that I use is excellent and stops at nothing to work with and help these guys out. ALSO,wet tail is not just a hampster disease either. Most rodents can catch it. The Oasis Wet Tail Drops are for hampsters,Rats,g pigs, etc but said nothing about squirrels. Only said not to give to rabbits.Jackie,I asked for help....... That's why I posted the thread ;) And yes,the boy IS underweight,as I already said I don't knowhow long the lady had them before I got them. She finally called a vet clinic in my area and they called me. The female died in an hour of having her and had a ton of issues. The boy has improved tremendously but had on and off again loose stool. I've only had him one week today =/ Do you think MOST people would even TRY to do what I've done?

C18, I have to tell you this. I'm not sure if it is a generally approved remedy for squirrels or not, but my vet (who has a NR of her own that stays in her office) told me to do this, and it has worked wonders.
I got Cheeky when he was 7-10 days old. To make a long story short, first he got coccidia and had to take med for that, then he also had clostridium and had to take med for that. Even tho he had yogurt added to his diet he still had really loose stools. The vet told me to feed him healthy squirrel poo. It replenishes the healthy flora in the gut. I have a little poo collection from my 8-month-old squirrel, Lucy. Take two dried squirrel poos and crush it (I use two spoons), mix it with a little bit of banana baby food (if you have kids, you know about bananas helping with diarrhea), suck it up in a syringe and feed it to Bachita every evening until his stools are normal for a few days in a row. Viola!!

Well now there's a thought =) I did try to give bananas and he refused to eat them =/ I will try again though. He is doing much better than he was when I got him despite his poop. I'm off for the weekend so won't be able to weigh him again till Monday. I'm also caring for 3 others presently, all from different litters but I do have one that is perfectly healthy who is only with me temporarily because of an injured foot... Maybe I could try it with hers.. I have 2 boys right now that are 7 and 8 weeks old and there was a third but I lost him due to an absorbency issue =( He just stopped growing and his body wasn't absorbing nutrients anymore. Instead of putting him down (and not wasting milk on him like some said) I kept going until he just went on his own Tues night =( But anywho,THANKS for the tip and I just might give it a try =)

Cheeky won't eat bananas themselves, but he likes the baby food in the syringe. I tried giving him the poo in his formula and he said, "oh HELL no, I'm not swallowing that". :rotfl

Sorry,I just saw where you asked for pics... I've tried to post pics of the girl who had them and died BUT it says my images or format is too large?? If there's a way I can email them or text them to you let me know. The boys (Bachita) is only a spot with a scab now. Its almost done =) But the girl was awful. It went down under the skin so far that it I think reached her groin and had something to do with her back leg swelling. I flushed with chlorohexi and a 1ml syringe and it went in pretty far =( She was basically gone by that time and didn't feel it trust me =/ She was basically gone when she got here =( Let me know how I can get those pics to you and ill send some of Bachita too..

I got them...
will post them.
Bananas can cause soft poops..
it's one of those foods that can cause loose stool, or help form stool depending on the individual.
After I saw the pics of the little deceased sq, I would guess spider bite... they can get nasty fast... they create ulcerations and tissue decomposes fast.. necrosis.

Thanks for posting them on here for me =) My mobile won't let me or the site won't let me,I dunno. I guess it could of been a spider bite. Who knows =/ Or atleast caused by SOMETHING biting or puncturing it. But there wasn't enough necrosis goin on for me to think SB right off. The tissue inside of the opening was clear. No damage or signs of infection at all. It was only the surface skin,ya know. Spider bites tend to rot away skin & fleash pretty quick esp on a small creature like this one. I don't think it would stop at the skin and only eat away surrounding skin instead of going down into the body and eating the tissue under it too. And that leg. Lady said she had been using it up until that day when it swole up and began to drag. She saw the mass on her belly and said she had 2 different ones pop up. But when I flushed it I told you it somehow formed a sac under the first layer of epiderm that reached all the way down to her groin and I believe into that leg or muscle (somehow..) I think it was connected. But either way it was a hell of an infection for that little girl. If she'd of called days before, she might of had a better chance with my vet. HONESTLY I thought it may of had something somehow to do with all the protien they had been getting for however long =/ Google gave zero input on the effects or if its even possible to poison a squirrel with protein =( I've had several possums in the past that had absesses to different areas and they all looked like hers. They all healed great with flushes and meds =/ But anywho. On to Bachita,STILL having loose stool and it comes out a little then just gets hard and matted and blocks his booty =( Don't know what "blocks" y'all use exactly but I use these fiber pellets that I bought in Dunedin a few mos back for one of my fliers. They were costly and great for everything from fliers to normal wild squirrels. Also has crushed soy beans and cranberries and dried fruit too. I'm seeing now that he WILL NOT eat them. He either chokes or just flat refuses like he doesn't know what to do =/ Something is very wrong with him. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he is blind too. I dunno. He acts lost and can't find the dropper or bed on his own still. Don't know what else to do. I've got several others who are just great. He just isn't doing anything he should be doing. Tips or advice welcome.... Help..

Hi Charlotte, do you live near any of our regular members? We have some really expert members who have so much knowledge that getting her to one of them even to just evaluate if you didn't want to relinquish her to someone else might help. If you already posted your location, I am sorry to ask again, but what big city or town are you near in Florida?

HI!! Sorry I haven't been back on,I've been incredibly busy lately. @Jackie,a fecal would be great!! Even here at my work I've gotta pay $8.50 for it. I'm a single mom of 2 on one tiny income and everything I do for these little guys comes out of my pocket =( Food, meds, everything. But he is doing well though AND since I can't post pics,I wanted y'all to see him so that's him and I in my profile/avatar pic =) He eats great, plays, runs,"talks" and everything just fine. Just can't get the whole poop thing situated is all. But he IS lonely though. He knows there are other critters like him there and he is very curious lol. So I took a chance yesterday and "introduced" him to my 2 younger ones Isaac & Duder AND BOY WAS HE EVER EXCITED!! He was all over them and rolling and kept rubbing the sides of his face all over Isaac and even seemed in love with Isaac's tail lol. Was cleaning it and rubbing it all over his face and shoving his nose in his ears lol. It was only for about 2 mins and I felt bad when I had to take them away cause I know he loved it but I'm just worried is all. Duder and Isaac are 8 and 9 weeks old and I've had them since they were 1 and 2wks old. I've worked too damn hard for something to happen now. BUT THAT'S MY BACHITA IN MY PIC WITH ME. He is very handsome =)
