In NE Central Florida, (Florahome, FL, Putnam county), I'm roadside by a deer hit by a car. Looks like it's a broken leg, seems really feisty, doesn't seem fully grown, not a baby, probably a juvenile, she's a female. Does anyone know of any rehabbers in this area that will take an injured juvenile deer, and not be quick to euthanize? Please respond by phone as I'm roadside now. Thanks, Kathy 480-334-4915

Florida members, I did a quick search online, so I do NOT know the reputation of this facility, but it does appear that they do take deer. They are also about 45 minutes away from Twi_Prime's general location.
Florida Wildlife Care Center, Inc., located at 3400 SE 15 St., Gainesville, FL. They have an emergency line...
Please use our 24-hour helpline for emergency help

AGAIN, I DO NOT KNOW THIS FACILITY, I SIMPLY DID A GOOGLE SEARCH TO SEE WHAT WAS IN THE AREA/CLOSEST.

Hi, this is Danny, Kathy's bf. I'm monitoring this thread while she's waiting for calls. She hasn't received any calls yet and is still roadside by the deer with a thunderstorm about to break out any minute. We've been to Florida Wildlife Care Inc mentioned above before and took a squirrel but they never returned any of our calls about her condition so we're reluctant to go back there. The deer is also too heavy for Kathy to pick up too but maybe I could manage it.
Florahome is about 25 miles outside Palatka, FL and maybe 50 miles away from both Jacksonville and Gainesville. There's a Florida wildlife person on the way to evaluate but we've no idea how long that's going to take or how quick they are to euthanize. If anyone could call Kathy to help her roadside, that would be great. 480 334 4915
Sarabi's cell would be great too if she'll know what to do. Really at loose ends here.

another online search brought up this wildlife center, and in another article they mentioned they'd released deer:

also: I've worked at a clinic where they were VERY quick to euthanize deer, claiming that these animals don't rehab well, they are too frightened of humans~~ yet, other clinics seem able to do rehabilitate them just fine, so I would also call the Rescue Coalition I found and posted above.

Thanks, I'll pass that on to her, that sounds the most promising yet. No reason for this deer to be euthanized, she's so feisty, but that doesn't mean they won't I know. Trouble now is with the Florida Wildlife agent coming out it's a race for time because if they're quick to euthanize and they want to take her, we can't stop them.

Thanks, Jackie, that would be great. I'm really thinking if Florida Wildlife takes her she's going to be euthanized and no reason for it.

Hi guys, it's Kathy. Sorry to report, the deer had to be euthanized. The wildlife officer felt there were internal injuries as well. Sorry, I just wanted to let you know. Thanks for your selfless efforts.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to say thanks again for all the help yesterday. I'm sure it's like Anne told me by phone. A deer's body is too heavy for her thin little legs to heal and give her a life--if it even was *just* the legs. I don't know if her spine was injured or not, but it may have been. The wildlife officer also felt that she was bloated in a way that suggested internal injuries. Sorry nothing could be done for her. :Love_Icon

I'm sorry to see it didn't work out for her.
I love to see, hear and read of wonderful human beings stopping and caring for any injured animal. Thank you from my heart for staying with her, getting her help even though she couldn't live her life out here on earth. She's not suffering and was loved when she needed it the most.
You two are awesome for initiating the rescue and TSB member for working so hard to get the research done from their homes.:bowdown
