Squirmy almost died a few days ago because I thought using puppy pads over the heating pad was a good idea to keep the pee and poo from getting on it. Warning. i read a post about the toxic fumes from the pad being heated is toxic to squirrels just in time. it took him a couple of days to get back to square one, but he would have died that day if I had not found that out on this site. I don't remember who posted that, but thank you, a million times over.

Thank God you realized it in time! :bowdown
The post you read was reprinted from another rehabber's website by permission from the author. She was devastated after realizing her use of the pads at a wildlife center resulted in the death of many baby squirrels, and wanted to make sure everyone learned from her tragic mistake. She is saving babies every day by making that post. :thumbsup

That is the reason it is so important to share your knowledge with others :thumbsup. Glad you found out in time. This is also something good to know for me as a future vet. We always use puppy pads at the clinic I used to work at and we didn't use heating pads, but would warm fluid bags and put those under and put heaters on the dogs to keep them warm as well. I don't imagine that is a particularly good idea! Thank you for sharing :thankyou

This has actually been a sticky for a long time (actually, a year ago yesterday).

I think what happens with "stickies" is we are getting so many,
that most of the time, we DON'T even notice them anymore.:dono
Perhaps when baby season and all of the feedings are over,:D somehow
we can simplify ALL of the stickies into one place with a different/new STICKY title.
