I have two baby fox squirrels. They have had their eyes open about three weeks now. One of the fox squirrels is perfectly fine, jumping, bouncing, and playing and nibbling on solid food. The other one has developed a severe weakness in his back legs and it is now moving to his front legs. He has tried to nibble on solid food but it is more like he is gumming it. I had talked with a vet two days ago and was told he had a back injury and would eventually die and there was nothing to do. I asked about the possibilty of needing vitamins, etc and was told no. I found your forum last night on the web. The best conclusion from your site is that he possibly has Metabolic Bone Disease and with that I have stopped the Hartz pupply milk replacer formula that I learned was "junk" and have started the goat milk formula until I can get some milk from Fox Valley. I also gave him a crushed up tums last night and have started giving him a dose every time I feed him. I took him outside on my lunch break to let him get some sunshine. Do you have any other ideas or suggestions of what it could be or what I need to do. I have raised many squirrels in the past and have never had this problem. And like I said, his brother is perfectly healthy, or at least seems to be.
