Sounds like he needs Baytril or human variety is Cipro. Do you have either? Check with family and friends about both too. If you find them, please post strength and pill or liquid etc. so the experts can help. :grouphug :grouphug :grouphug

I was out all day today but Rusty4255 PM'd me and says he has children's liquid Cipro. I'm not familiar with this form of the drug -- anybody out there ever use it?

Used it...hmmm, it was given to me as a child, does that qualify?

After a quick search online I found the following...not sure if this is even close to what you are looking for or not...if not, sorry.

CIPRO Oral Suspension is supplied in 5% (5 g ciprofloxacin in 100 mL) and 10% (10 g ciprofloxacin in 100 mL) strengths. The drug product is composed of two components (microcapsules and diluent) which must be combined prior to dispensing.
One teaspoonful (5 mL) of 5% ciprofloxacin oral suspension = 250 mg of ciprofloxacin.
One teaspoonful (5 mL) of 10% ciprofloxacin oral suspension = 500 mg of ciprofloxacin.

It would be better than nothing. Now don't make me do math and figger the dosage. I have given it to PEOPLE in hospitals, if you got pneumonia, time is of the essence.

i hate math, now I gotta figger it or I will feel guilty..... somebody do the math.

But yes I would think any antibiotic at this point until you get something others are more familiar with dosages like Baytril tomorrow.

Amoxicillin is usually given in place of Penicillin in PEOPLE. So since it is an antibiotic, I would think it best to try to get a dosage from someone.

Tell me what the label sez ... Like how much amoxicillin in how much liquid? OK

I went to RN school, but not Squirrel school. For all I know it could give him terrible diarrhea. Be careful.

He now has the poops. What do I need to do?

CrazySquirrelLady

tell me what kind of amoxicillin that you have... is it Liquid or a pill....

What size/strength.

Pray the experts come thru.

The dose for a cat is 5 mg per pound. I can figger the math, but I need to know.

This is gonna tear up his little gut and give him worse diarrhea.

PRAY FOR THE EXPERTS, but I'll try and help in the meantime.

I ain't no vet now... you better get to one quick if possible and get BAYTRIL Liquid cuz these people here say it is the way to cure your baby fast!

Oh, I saw it, did the math.

require daily one time dosage for 112 grams would be : 1.25 mg.

The medicine you have has 80 mg per ML. It is way to strong.

There would be enough for a WHOLE POUND IN JUST ONE DROP>

IT'S JUST TOO STRONG FOR BABY SQUIRREL.

IF YOU OVER DOSE IT WITH ONE DROP!!!!! IT WILL GET BAD DIARRHEA.

DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE TOO STRONG FOR SQUIRRELS.

ONE DROP HAS 5 WHOLE MILLIGRAMS..... 4 TIMES THE RECOMMENDED DOSE IN JUST ONE DROP!

STOP... FIND ANOTHER MED FAST!

Hugs
CSL

p.s I hates math.... but it saved this squirrel from the wrong medicine.

HOW MUCH DID YOU GIVE HIM?
I told you I would do the math... You were supposed to wait.

There IS no way to get it out of his system honey.

Why did you not let me do the math... I am slow at math and had to research correct dosage in vet books online first...

****.

how much liquid did you give him, I know it was more than one drop.

So you just decided to guess at the dosage? I did math for 30 minutes.

You gave a squirrel the dose of a 20 lb dog.

You better get some help with diarrhea treatment... It's coming.

Poor poor little squirrel

I'm just crying and crying over this.

If I had you here I would turn your bottom up and spank you.

I don't know ANYTHING about dosing squirrels..... I was just gonna do the math and see if a dosage could be found.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP THIS SQUIRREL. I got to go feed mine.

poor poor little squirrel poor poor little squirrel. He is gonna be SO SICK and having PNEUMONIA too..... poor poor little squirrel.

by ASTRA in a post to another person who had a squirrel with diarrhea.

FOR RIGHT NOW:

1. Stop formula.
2. Give them pedialyte for a few feedings. It will flush their systems and will hydrate them because diarrhea causes dehydration.
So, give pedialyte for a few feedings.
Often, that helps get rid of the diarrhea.

Just remember that pedialyte should not be given for more than 24 hours. After that - plain or lightly sweetened water if hydration is still needed.

Never mix formula and pedi. They can be fed in turns (one feeding formula, one pedi), but never mixed.

Please post how they do, so that if diarrhea persists TSB experts will make other suggestions.

Above was originally posted by ASTRA, a smart person here, I hope that her post will help the poor squirrel and his diarrhea. I hope the experts come along and help the poor little thing.

Serious overdoses can result in kidney and liver failure. Even at the best of times, antibiotics mess with the stomach and cause diarrhea, and diarrhea means theyre losing a lot of extra fluid. So my (very unprofessional) opinion is to give extra fluid, try to keep him hydrated, as CSL suggested.

I hope someone waaay more experienced will give you advice soon! Praying for you guys.

This is funny...I thought it was a little boy it's a little girl. But we are great named her Bella. She is healthy loves gm. Fox valley should be here anytime now. She is up and playful for most of the day. Which don't allow me to get much done because I like to play with her and enjoy her so much. Her pic will be my profile picture.
