You can't see her much because I have her face next to the mic. She is 6 weeks old and I think she may have pneumonia. I am using a well used syringe so she has to much control now that I've been using it 3 weeks and instead of me pushing out the formula, shes able to suck it out on her own and goes too fast. I need to get a new one asap, I know. She only makes this noise within the first hour after she does this and makes it go up her nose, ect. After that she quits and sounds normal. P.S This is only the second time shes done it to herself and one other time my friend did it to her.
What you hear in the video is what noise comes from her nose. It appears to go along with her sniffing, rather than her breathing. After she stops this noise and I listen to her chest, all you can hear is her heart beating.
At the end she jumped onto the camera, so I laughed.

i'm a first timer too. you can get lots of help on here. not sure what you've done so far but if you havent already you should give him some pedialyte, warm him up with a pad and check to see if he injured. Where did you find him? Write some more and people will help answer questions.

I found him laying on the ground under a very tall tree while i was mowing the yard (eyes havent opened but he has top and bottom teeth.) The squirrel is very skinny and was sorta cold at first. fed him watered down gatorade and milk meal. Good luck with your squirrel also!

Sounds like yours is about 6 weeks at the minimum. Mines 6 weeks and her top teeth are visable but not far grown. Try posting a picture :)
I'm new and I'm just going to pass on what I've learned these past 3 weeks. Someone else will come along and correct me if I'm wrong with any of this! I know pedialite is better than gatorade, so if you can get it, use that. I've seen on here you shouldnt give pedialite for more than 24 hours. Although, I gave mine pedialite for 2.5 days (I didnt know at the time, whoops. but she was ok) Keep her warm at all times. If you can't find a rehabber/think you can do it, use this goats milk formula whenever you get her rehydrated.
1 part goats milk
1 part heavy whipping cream
1 part plain or vanilla yogurt (not lowfat)
Warm it up a bit.
You'll want a syringe. I'm using a 10cc but you'll want something smaller if you can get it. Using this large one is a pain in the butt. Banfield hospital in Petsmart gave me one for free, so you could ask.
I started mine at 2cc's per feeding and fed every 3 hours. Mine was 4 weeks old though. Now that mine is 6 weeks, I feed her 4cc's every 4 hours. Depends on weight and also age. Weigh her and/or post a picture on here.
Do not lay her on her back when you feed her. Keep her up right and go slowly. I go as slow as possible and pull the syringe away every 10 seconds or so. Takes patience.
Sounds like she may have fallen out of a tree. Is she injured? Is she walking? Eyes open?
edit - since youre new, it may not let you post a pic. if you have one, you can email it to me and i'll post it. people tend to do that on here. have you tried posting your own thread?

What part of Ohio are you in? I can help you find a rehabber near you if you'd like. It is hard to say with the video, I'd say it sounds clicky, but not horrible clicking. The little tyke will need fox valley formula too, the goats milk alone is only a temporary formula while you order fox valley.

Is this the syringe you've been using? Do you have a nipple on this?
Oh, I saw another post about her maybe not being releasable due to only having a partial tail.
She is definitely releasable, the tail isn't that short, and they adapt really well, even if it were.

I couldn't really hear much, but pneumonia doesn't come and go. You will hear an audible click with each breath if you hold her close to your ear. You will also see her breathing getting labored so her sides will really depress visibly with each breath.
You can go to your local pharmacy and ask for needless 1cc syringes to feed her. They hand them over for free:) If you go on amazon you can also order a box of 100 1cc's for less than 20 dollars- I use and dispose of one each day so you will use the box for sure. You can also order o-ring syringes which I did but honestly mine can suck those things out waaaay too fast so I prefer the 1cc's and tossing after a day better.
She is very thin so I hope you are getting weight's on her each day. I also don't recommend you letting inexperienced people feed her as cute as it is pneumonia is deadly:( I have 2 a week older than her and can tell you this endeavor isn't cheap. Make sure you understand her caging needs now and have planned to spend a hefty amount on fresh foods and proper block.

Two rehabbers to try:
1. msriri would be an excellent choice because she has a single squirrel (at least last time I talked to her she still just had the one squirrel I had given back to her (I babysat for a little while) her before I moved to Columbus) and isn't that far from you depending on what part of Summit you are in. You can PM her.
2. Francis Kitchen is an excellent rehabber in Summit county. Her number is: (330)745-2947. She is great, but could be full and isn't always the greatest at letting people know she's full (sometimes disconnects answering machine or just never calls back :shakehead). If she isn't full, though, she is great and would be the closest to you.
So, try Msriri and she if she can take him that would be awesome- I'd trust her with my own baby squirrels any day. If msriri can't take him, then try Francis, if that doesn't work either, I can give you more numbers.

Deanna I would take them up on a wellness check and any meds if necessary. When my two came in my husband said NO WAY were we inviting strangers into our home with our kids, but with coaxing he allowed it. 2 very generous members provided wellness checks, better syringes till my order came in, and meds. These people are very knowledgeable, caring, and generous. I have gained a wealth of knowledge and help from them, and am very greatful to have help and support close by:)

try not to be so hard on her she doesnt know everything she is a new squirrel mommy and she did more than a lot of people would by bringing it into her home and doing her best to care for it. she probably didnt know that she shouldnt have let her friend feed it and may not know the correct things to use we need to be helpful and educate her not make her feel unwelcome. if we chase her away she will never learn and isnt the goal here to save baby squirrels?

The drugstore pharmacist will give you a 1cc or 3cc syringe if you ask them. At least Walgreens will. When the syringe begins to stick it's easy to accidentally push it to get it unstopped when the baby is eating and aspirate them.
Also, for now the nipple that is on the AG 2oz nursing bottle fits the tip of both the 1 and 3cc syringe and it don't matter if its the slip tip or the lucer lock kind. But throw the AG Nursing bottle away... its a big :nono Mine sucks the nipple and drinks all by himself when the syringe is working properly.
I mention that nipple because its readily available at most pet stores and Tractor supply. Mine loves his so much he won't take the new silicone mothering ones I received I do have some catac nipples coming too but apparently the place I ordered from takes it's sweet time to deliver! I let you know how those work out.

You're supposed to help people on here, but when they tell you as many details as possible, you critizes them. Everyone starts somewhere and makes an occasional mistake. Considering I'm new, my squirrels doing great.
I'd appreciate it if you'd stop acting the way you are.

I'm not sure exactly what you're talking about. I don't have any nipples to use. She seems to be doing ok without one. I've had her for 3 weeks and never had trouble getting her to eat. She doesnt have bottle, just a syringe.

Not to toot my own horn, but apparently I'm doing something right, since I've kept her alive for 3 weeks. I've been online every single night for hours and have called a rehabber as well as spent a lot of my money to give her everything she needs.

Thankyou! She has been moved to a temporary cage. Its 3 feet tall, 2 feet deep and 2 feet wide. As she gets larger, I'll get her something larger. She seems to like what shes in for now and shes under constant watch. She has started to eat cherrios and shows interest in the rodent block I got her. Thanks for telling me she is thin, I didn't know. I'll have to feed her more I guess. Those pictures are atleast 5 days old though. And I'll go to CVS tomorrow if they are open on Sunday! People have asked to feed her since, and I've said no. I didn't think my friend would mess it up. I thought it was remotely easy ha

All I have to say is all of you are VERY wrong. I'm not stupid, immature or unable to take care of her. For those who have helped me, THANKYOU! For those who say they're trying to help but then attack me for making mistakes, you should be ashamed. You have said false things about me and ya know what? Everyone learns somewhere. Regardless of my mistakes, shes doing well. Funny thing is. I posted a video asking for help if anyone knew if it was pneumonia and I got maybe 2 legit answers! The rest were all insults or conversing insulting me. How is that helping the baby squirrel?! Listen to the video and answer the question! Thats more important at the moment!
Yes, I'm young but I have a good job and have bought her everything she needs up to this point and plan to continue to do so. You do not know me or my schedule or my abillity to take care of her. I do schooling at home and work few hours. Yes, I'm young but I do not go out. Animals are my passion, I love them and have many. From rodents to amphibians, reptiles, dogs.. and much more. I've also found wild baby rabbits and abandoned kitten and got them back to health and set free the bunnies and found homes for the kittens. I've also saved small birds and toads. YOU DO NOT KNOW ME well enough to say the things you have. I've taken everyones advice and I have used it. I got Belle when she was near dead and had been attacked by a cat. I've had her for 3 weeks and shes doing great. The "clicking" is not for certain pneumonia, and I'm getting her looked at by someone on here very soon. If shes sick she will get meds and I'm getting the correct syringe. She has had EVERYTHING she needs. Saying I'm unable to care for her is ridiculous. All of my animals are very well taken care of and have EVERYTHING they need. As well as Belle. And its not certain yet that she needs medication. Shes on the correct formula (fox valley) she has a heating pad, a spacious safe cage now and before she was in a 10 gallon tank. She has rodent block and cherrios to switch over to. She now pees and poops on her own, but before I helped her with it and still do once a day just incase. I'm not feeding her 4cc's every 4 hours either! 6ccs every 4 hours. YES, I let a friend feed her and my dogs were next to her cage at one point. But I'm understanding of the fact that those two things can not happen again and plan on net letting them. I said "everyone making to big a deal of the dogs" because I was getting more critisism for that then I was getting answers about the foaming/drooling. I've contacted a rehabber as well.

Glad you're giving msriri a call, she'll be able to take a look and see how everything is going with your little tyke. :grouphug People have just seen what can happen to squirrels with new finders and sometimes post things that are misinterpreted, everyone here wants what's best for your squirrel :thumbsup. I am of the opinion that age doesn't matter with animal care, but training and skills definitely do. I think you need someone who can guide you through the care of the baby squirrel and I think it's important for you to seek out that guidance. Msriri will be able to help you learn the ropes, she is great!
I started rehabbing when I was 17 so I know there are skeptics to raising babies when you're younger, but I proved them all wrong and have been rehabbing for 8 years and even though people see me when they drop babies off and are like :thinking are you sure you're old enough and will often start talking to my mom instead of me (I look like I'm 17 still), they quickly realize that I know what I'm talking about and realize that even if I was 17, I know what I'm doing. If rehabbing is something you're passionate about, I say go for it. Just always remember that you rehab for the animal, not yourself and that if something is going wrong, you need to seek out help.
If you want to learn more about rehabbing, I'd recommend contacting Sander's center in Stark county, they would love the help I'm sure and it would give you a chance to learn the ropes. A love for animals is not enough to make a good rehabber, you have to learn proper care, things that can go wrong and how to fix them, what animals need for a proper cage setup, when to wean, what foods are OK, what skills they need for the wild, where a good release place would be, and so much more. Rehabbing takes a combination of a love for animals, a lot of time and energy, and a lot of knowledge. You are new and need to recognize that there are a TON of people (like every rehabber) out there that have more knowledge than you and accept that, be humbled and learn. That is what you're squirrel needs. The things I went through as a young rehabber were not fun, I had to learn so many things the hard way because the center I volunteered at wasn't good. Take the opportunity to volunteer at a good one (Sander's center) and if you're truly interested, attend the Ohio Wildlife Conference in November to learn more and ask lots of questions. People are amazing at the conferences and will stay over the class to talk to you. Go to www.owra.org for more info. about the conference and I highly recommend going to it if you're interested in rehabbing.
You never know where rehabbing will take you... I am currently in vet school and if you asked me when I started rehabbing if I'd consider being a vet I would have said no way, I can't do surgery or euthanize. Wildlife rehab has a lot of tough lessons to teach and there is always more to learn, but if you truly love it with all your heart you take the lessons to heart and know the only way to heal from the loss of a baby is to get out there and keep trying and to learn more so you can save the next one. Rehabbing is tough, but there is absolutely nothing in this world that I love more. I miss rehabbing with all my heart right now and wish I could take in baby squirrels or opossums, or bunnies, or any needy little wild animal.
Sorry to ramble (really trying to avoid studying I think :shakehead), but my point is that people here are passionate and definitely do want what's best for your squirrel. Take the little tyke to msriri so she can take a look and see what's up and help you help your little squirrel.

Deanna. I know it seems that people have been very harsh. Unfortunately passionate people can be. I think sometimes it's hard to understand why. The best way to understand is to go the one place on the board where it all becomes clear. It's all there, sadness, pain, hope, disappointment, fear, stupidity, anger, comfort, broken hearts and souls, tears, condolences, but something that sticks out is a dedication beyond anything you can imagine from some of the people on this board. I've only been a member here for 7 months or so, but I've seen so many threads that have ended up there. Until you see the lengths that these people will go to, to try a save one of these wonderful animals you'll never understand what I do now.
That place is the rainbow bridge and all squirrels go to heaven. It's the hardest part of the board to visit, and ever time I see one of those green arrows that shows a thread's been moved my heart sinks. If you read through some of the threads in there you will begin to understand.
For me I've been through some in real time as they happened. I'm sure people here can direct you to many threads on there, but the one that went from the start and checked every day, even though I didn't post until near the end. It shows that dedication is "My Paco is very sick."
If you haven't been there I believe you should, but be warned. Make sure you have a big box of tissues when you do.
