I just got back from class and went to check on pinky. She is obviously clicking and lethargic... although I did just wake her up, usually she would be happy to see me and she doesn't seem to care much.
I know how it happened, but didn't really think much about it at the time. After I finished the first of her syringes of food this morning, she ran over to the coffee mug with the rest of the syringes in it and dunked her nose in the water before could even react. She did blatantly snort out a couple of time to clear her nose but everything seemed fine after so I didn't think twice.
I need to know what med to get and what dose. I weighed her at 275 grams.
Thanks!
Mike (and Pinky)
edit: I'm sitting here thinking while waiting for a reply. I'm really shocked that she's clicking so quickly. That happened only 3 hours ago.

Baytril is the drug of choice for pneumonia, and 0.1 is the dose (which is the number 1 on a 1 cc syringe, not the first tiny line).

There is a video on Emergency Forum by Miriam, called pneumonia video. Check it out. It goes on to say you have to get Baytril, and it's only by perscription. I'm new on here, so check it out, it should be the first thread on Emergency (life threatening) Help Needed.

Thank you. How do I go about getting Baytril if it's perscription only?
Is it legal for someone to fax (or email) me a prescription for it? Or is anyone near Indy that I can come and get a prescription right now? I guess the 3rd question is if I just ask a local vet, is it even worth asking for a perscription from them?
Thanks!

Is it a single dose that she needs, or with every meal and if so for how long?
This seems crazy, but the clicking seems to be getting quieter since I've had her up giving her attention. It's certainly not gone. If it goes away is she in the clear or do I still want to get meds asap?

Unless you know a sympathetic vet, you won't get any baytril, but cipro (ciprofloxacin) the very popular human antibiotic is virtually the same thing and can be substituted. Start calling your friends and family and ask them to check their medicine cabinets...

Okay, so I actually happen to have a prescription in the house that I can go get some 500 mg tablets of cipro. What do I do with that to get the right dose out of it? We actually can go to a pharmacy where we know the pharmacist and I'm sure she'd help out to the best of her legal ability.
Is the .1 someone mentioned in mg or how many mg per ml do we dose and how often?
Thanks!
edit: my alternative it take her to a vet tomorrow, but the earliest appointment I can seem to get (so far) is 1pm tomorrow afternoon. By the looks of things she doesn't look like she'd make it that far. I can't believe things are moving this fast. Is pneumonia really that quick to take out a squirrel?

Thank you!
I'm back from the pharmacy and I have 500mg of cipro and 4 oz of Ora Plus. I just need to know how to mix it and how often to give it. :)
Awaiting an answer.
They can either post here, PM me,email me at nevitt33@gmail.com, or call me at 720-206-6800.
Thank you very much!

I just wanted to report that everything looks like it's back to a manageable level and she's doing much better.
I have the dosing all figured out and all, but I'm wondering if there's a better way to give it to her. She now knows that the 1cc syringe tastes different and I pretty much have to force it into her mouth and make her drink it. Obviously that's not ideal. Can I just mix the meds with formula or how else can I trick her into taking it?
