This is my second baby squirrel so I feel pretty comfortable with what I'm doing. But i don't recall having to stimulate them to pee after the eyes had opened. I know each squirrel is different, but i just need to know that it's normal that she is still needing my help. i think she (Juliet) is just about 5 weeks old. I've had her since just under a 1 week old. she is otherwise quite healthy and happy.

thank you!

Hi Margaret:
Usually around 5-6 weeks old they begin to attempt to pee on their own.
As long as they tolerate it you can continue until you know for sure. Damp bedding, or by stimulating 2x a day, if it is dark or smelly then she is still holding it and you should continue a bit longer.

Your welcome.
Congratulations for raising Juliet up from such a wee one. You've done a great job. How wonderful. Have you been feeding Fox Valley? There is some very useful information on high quality/calcium rich foods to feed her when she is ready. What type of squirrel is Juliet?

she as well as Dexter (our first baby) have been FV babies form day one. they are life savers. I thank them everyday. I haven't really gotten a straight answer about what type she is. she is the same as Dexter though... go figure.
here's a picture or her for the day she opened her eyes a few days ago.

How beautiful.
I'm in California.
She looks like a Western Gray but I've not seen one here with red tones. Only fox squirrels which have much more rusty tones on them. Hmmm..
To be determined.
Either way she looks healthy and well cared for.

I knew mine were good when I kept finding a wet spot in the same place in the cage and no longer peed when I stimulated them. Took me a few days but I finally realized they were all big:D
