Really the best thing is to let it hatch. How old is the squirrel? My mom & I have had several run ins with bot flys and cats. It was disgusting and I'm really not sure we did any good. You can try putting vasealine over the hole, BUT if the worm dies you have to get it out or it can cause lotsa problems.

Yes......... try placing Vaseline over the bot fly to suffocate it and then it will crawl out (or) just let it come out on its own --(((hugs))).
You can give some Infant Motrin if you think the squirrel is in pain...... we just need a weight on him to give you the dose amount.

a fellow rehabber/newby has it..lol I never had to deal with one of those I dont think. I had one one time that had a small bump ans I thought it was inffection and I squeezed it thinking I would squeez out the puss and it was a worm..lol ewwww I think a warble?? I dont know but they said I was luck it came out with out dieing or being sqashed,, but it just popped out.. can this do the same?:dono

I am waaay to grossed out by the idea of a worm inside of one of my animals I would be loosing my mind:D Kuddos to that rehabber cause I do believe I would be loosing sleep, lol

Well you should have seen me..lol it was soo funny now... :rotfl I thought I was squeezing nd infected bump.. and out shootes a maggot looking thing.Scared me soo bad I dropped my baby and was screaming and ended up sick in the bathroom.. you would have thought a hand jumped out and grabbed me..:rotfl never want to do that again..:shakehead

Lol yes worms of all things just gross me out and slugs go figure. I can deal with puke, poop, pee, blood, spiders, love reptiles, and have had to dissect every animal under the sun for anatomy in college, but worms even in feces under a microscope creep me out:rotfl The image I am getting of you dropping your baby and screaming is priceless though cause I would have done the same:D

Just let it runs its course, more risky to try to mess with it, even putting vaseline could cause it to die inside and you don't want that!

And I have to say, in regards to squeezing a bump, you should never do that, even if it is an infection, you can cause the junk to go deeper in and make matter worse. Better to do warm compresses, and abs (after conferring with vet to confirm infection). You were indeed very lucky you did not cause more problems by squeezing.

yes I know this now but I was a newby then and lucky..lol and everyone laughed at me.. told me if the worm did not get it the fall might have.. cause I seriousely dropped the poor baby.. good thing it was straight to the carpet and nothing in the way.. learned a lesson for sure..mjs

UG!! Just looking at that picture gives me the heebie jeebies! I told everyone in my family... If I ever get a bot fly or anything like it, just take me to the vet and put me to sleep!!!:eek:
