Here's the short of it. I have two babies, 1 male 1 female. Female is doing great and just opened her eyes today :crazy The male, however, has a few issues including pnemonia like symptoms. I would like to treat with antibiotic but can't find Baytril as it is a long weekend. I have combi-pen-48 (penicillin G benzathine and penicillin G procaine injectable suspension), norocillin, and ponazuril (the only oral med I have). All of these were used for our alpacas. I have read that penicillin is hard on squirrels, but if I can't get anything else right now, will any of these work for a day or two. My husband also has antibiotic eye drops but I don't know the name as they are with him right now. I'm just trying to get him through the weekend until places open that I can get the right meds from. Thx for ideas. I will give more info if needed.

Please don't use any of these on the squirrel until someone with more experience responds. I suspect they're all squirrel-unfriendly. If your husband's eyedrops are erythromycin, that might work.

What exactly are the symptoms? Have you seen the video of the baby with pneumonia and does it sound like that or is it more upper respiratory? Do you have any human antibiotics leftover?

Eureka! We had a parakeet that had pneumonia this year and was prescribed baytril :) The rx date is 2/15/12 but there is no exp. date. I have 3 pre-filled syringes .05ml. How do I use this for little squirrel?

I did watch the pneumonia video and he sounded clickie last night, but not so much today. His breathing still looks labored, though. I am still giving the boy plyte. The girl is thriving on the goat milk formula. The boy also had 2 wounds on his face due to exposure and one had maggots. I got the maggots flushed out but thought I should do a round of antibiotics regardless of possible pneumonia. His penis had also been suckled by his sister b/c she was hungry and developed a little sore as well. I cleaned it up and a good amount of clear urine came out. There was a vary faint odor, so I hope I fixed that problem before infection set in.

You are going to need to get a weight on the baby before anyone can dose meds for you:)

No other info. My vet had prefilled them. The little guy passed, though. I did put ointment on his penis. I had him in a heated place and he still seemed strong when I put him to bed, but he just couldn't make it through the night :shakehead . Thank you all for the help. The little girl is doing great though.
