Just got a baby that has been brought in by a cat

the only AB I have is albon
I have human amoxicillian

I will give weight in a few minutes

How do you tell if it is a foxer?

I will post pic as soon as I can

Sassy, the only med I know works well for a cat attack is Baytril. I know nothing about the albon stuff (never even heard of it) nor do I know anything about amoxi. Can you get Baytril or Cipro?

SammysMom
08-31-2012, 07:45 PM
Put out the word to friends and family that you need Cipro. Someone is bound to have some around!

Thanks SammysMom for the heads up.:thumbsup :)
Sassy, I am pm'ing you some info. on both drugs and I have to step away, I will keep checking back.
Personally if you cannot get baytril, I would go with the amox. for now just to get something into her.
Continue looking for the baytril/cipro.
I sent you a dosing chart.

Albon is an antifungal, NOT an antibiotic. I don't think it will do a darn thing against pasturella or the other bacteria in a cat's mouth. Baytril is the best, SMZ-TMP second choice for this.

ok went back and checked and this is what I have

azithromycin 250mg
clavamox 62.5 mg
doxycycline 100 mg (this is AB for dogs) this powerful ab that restricts growth of bacteria

his weight is 35.4 grams

took some pics of him - Is he a grey or fox - or am I just wishing

please let me know if any of these will work - how much and how often - and if these will not work will he be ok until tomorrow - I don't know if my local vet will give me some - my squirrel vet is in another town

Go with the Claxamox. I will send you information on that in one minute.

Sassy, I just pm'd you the chart for Clavamox.
Earlier I sent you the dosing chart for the amox.
If any rehabbers out there think that one is better than the other,
Sassy has dosing charts for both.
I say pick one, and get it into the squirrel NOW and continue looking for Baytril.

how do you dilute the tablet - and then how do you know how much to give of the diluted mixture? I have never diluted anything before

still needing to know how to dilute the med and how much of that to give

He is eating very good - we have decided to name him Butter - can you guess why? LOL:D

Sassy I do not know why people are not responding with how to dose. Please put this in EMERGENCY.

Sassy, I am going to spell this all out only because nobody has responded to help you with the dilution. I DO NOT know if this is correct, but at least it's something. Hopefully someone will come along and advise as to whether it's correct or not. I have taken ALL of this information directly out of Wild Mammal Babies 2nd Edition.

Turning the tablet into a Liquid
Take 1 Tablet of Clavamox and smash it into a fine powder.
Add the powder to 1cc of water.
Shake to mix (you need the powder to dissolve).

Dilute
(You need to make a 10% dilution.)
Add 9cc's of water to the 1cc of liquid you made above.

Dose
This needs to be given TWICE a day 12 hours apart
A probiotic REALLY should be used...this will tear up the gut as it is a form of penicillin.

The first dose should be a loading dose so it needs to be DOUBLE of the remaining.
The first dose should be 0.23cc's at a weight of 36 grams.

The second dose should be 0.115 (0.12) at a weight of 36 grams.

As the baby's weight changes the amount of meds should change too. Here is a list of amounts to dose based upon weight in grams.

36 0.115
37 0.118
38 0.122
39 0.125
40 0.128
41 0.131
42 0.134
43 0.138
44 0.141
45 0.144
46 0.147
47 0.150
48 0.154
49 0.157

I would administer for 7-10 days, but honestly, it's just a guess, I simply do not know.

Again, I do not know if this is right or not, but at least it is something. Please make sure you realize where the decimal is in all of the above.

Admin, if this is wrong please remove it, as I do not want anyone to see it in the future and follow.

clavamox will work:thumbsup
may get some messy poops...but we can fix that too!:thumbsup
MM asked me to ck her dosing..yes...she is right.:bowdown

If this seems to be too much liquid to admin to a 36 gram baby..
I can refigure it to half as much water..
let me know..
sending good vibes to you both!:Love_Icon

Sorry, I was cutting zzzzzzzz's before I saw the response. I did check before I went to bed, :dono I was hoping that the Clavamox that she had was in suspension/diluted, as I had scanned and sent dosing charts to her for both amox. and Clavamox.

SammysMom

Just hard to get a lot into a baby at one time I think. More a comfort than safety issue.

No problem NIN. I did not see the hour between your last post last night and then Sassy's response. I too was in bed when she responded at quarter of 12. :peace

Thank you for sending her the charts too!!!

I just got off the phone with Sassy and gave her the dosing info for the Baytril she has. Hopefully it works it's magic!

Sassy will be beside herself if he is a fox squirrel but I am warning you Fox squirrels are bad!! I think they are big red squirrels from what I have heard here about the red ones. Nougie is a doll compared to the foxers I have raised. The fastest way to tell is let them grow up and when one lands on you and it feels like a ton of bricks just hit you it is a fox. Nougie lands like a bag a marshmellows

Ya'll are just too funny!

Butter might have to go to your house Pat - I don't have fox squirrels here at my house - and I don't know where I can do a soft release for Butter

I will have to send you more pics of Butter - Wendell and Mr Ken says he is not a fox squirrel - booo

Butter weighs 38.4

so Milos Mom how much will I need to give at 3am

Milo's Mom
09-01-2012, 08:42 PM
50% less than what you gave him at 3pm. The 3pm dose was the loading dose, so from here on out you give him 50% of what the chart says TWICE a day, so at the end of the day he's had the amount the chart says.
