Last night around 10pm the rain let up from Isaac and my daughter and I had to get out of the house. So we jumped on the 4 wheeler and rode to areas where we know there are a lot of squirrel nest and stop and listen for any baby noises. Nothing. It started to rain again so we are trying to get home quickly and how she saw this guy thru the rain and all the debris in the road is totally beyond me. I have no idea what he is or if it is young and needs our help. I know this isnt a good pic. I will get a better one when she wakes up and can help me. He makes the craziest noises. Kinda like a camera maybe. One that you take rapid photos with. That is what my daughter described it like last night. And the only thing we had to get him home safely was a fanny pack we always carry with us. So we tucked him in it and headed home. So, according to my 10 year old. The birds name is " Camera Fanny Pack" Does anyone have an idea what he is?

Can you get a better shot of its face. Sending this to Jodi, but in the meantime, quiet, dark and low heat under half.

Hard to tell from that pic - could that be a whippoorwill? Can we get a shot of the face with no hands in the way?

Sorry they are so huge. I have 2 photos that are too big and cant post. Any suggestions. Can I email them to someone to re-size for me?
I have no idea what to offer a bird other than water. I will take suggestions freely. Thank you

I see or feel no injuries. He is active and really wants to get away. Full feathers.

I genuinely believe this is a whipoorwill or close relative (nightjar family). They are insect eaters. I would run to the pet shop and get some mealworms or waxworms. I don't think it is a baby - probably still young...

Thank you all.. I got lucky and a lady across the lake was positive it was a Chuck Wills Widow. She said it was young adult and looked fine. Said he may have just got confused and wet last night. I can believe that.. we were soaked by the time we got the little guy home. We offered him flight and he flew off like a champ. But not before he pooped all over me. Guess that was his way of saying thank you for a warm dry bed last night. :thumbsup Thank you again for taking the time to try and help us today.. Hope all that were in the path of the storm made it thru safely. God Bless.. :thankyou

Wonderful update! Yes, sometimes birds can just get so wet they cannot fly, esp. if it was a younger bird. Good luck little birdie! Thank you for helping this little one.

Your neighbor was right (at least it sure looks like it!) http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Chuck-wills-widow/id

Glad to hear of a good turn out. Like you, I don't see how she spotted that little fellow. Walked the property down here today and no babies to be found which was good. I will keep checking just to be sure. Holler if the ladies in Brooklyn need some relief.
