Hi, I have a 3-4 week old EGS (eyes closed) that I am rehabbing and it is not gaining weight. It hasn't lost any either. It is on Fox Valley infant formula. Fed 6/times a day. Any tips of what I could supplement it with to put some weight on him? Has anyone tried Nutri Cal? I'd like to pick it up today so can't wait for something I order on-line. Ideas? By the way, I received my rehab permit last week so this is the first batch I've rehabbed at home.

I'd order some of the Fox Valley Ultra Boost and while you're waiting for it to arrive I'd add some full fat all natural vanilla yogurt.

:goodpost i agree. Whipping cream will cause diarrhea in some babies. Ultra Boost is an excellent product, formulated for wildlife babies.

What do they weigh and how much formula are they taking at each feeding? I assume they are on full strength formula mixed one part powder to two parts water? Are you feeding the 32/40 or 20/50? Stacey

He is 60 grams and has been for 5 days. He is on Fox Valley 32/40. He now has diarhea so I've had to cut back and start over at 25%, 50%, etc. twice. He has had Dia Stat for diarhea a couple times now. He is fed 6 times a day - at least 2 hrs. apart. He is now on antibiotics because the vet thought he was wheezing and clicking when he breathed. He only take 2- 2.5 ml at each feeding and then I have to give him SQ fluids a couple times a day. Yesterday I gave him Pedialyte - strawberry between a feeding. He liked that but still only can take around 2 ml at a time. His stomach capacity is pretty small. I do like the idea of the yogurt - do you mix it in with the formula? Maybe that will help the loose stool too?
Thanks for all the suggestions. He is a tough little thing but I had one die yesterday and I can't bare to have this guy die. He is so sweet and cute. :thankyou

Ok. Now I'm really worried. They both lost weight over night. How much yogurt would I add to their formula?
Add 1/3 percent yogurt. As in: 1 cup Fox Valley regularly mixed formula and 1/3 cup full fat yogurt. Yogurt is good for the tummy (digestion) issues. Nick's (Fox Valley) ultra boost is wonderful and I have never had it cause diarrhea. Puts weight right on them safely.

Thanks Anne. That is so helpful! I will try that.
They are both eating like crazy but can't get rid of the diarrhea so not gaining weight. Can't figure out what is causing the diarrhea. Every time I get the formula up to 75% they get it. They look and act healthy though. I'll try the yogurt - bought it today. Thanks again for all the advice!
