Just received this little girl - a hawk attacked her nest - the mom did not come down and get her - the people that had her do know if the hawk got
the mom or not - she does have a little puncture wound on her head - does not appear to be deep - I cleaned and put neosporin on it - I got her warm and the fed her some pedialite - she took it with not problem - and then I pottied her - she peed - no poop - she does seem to be dehydrated - What and when do I need to do next - I have FV how do I mix it - normal? or watered down some? or feed more pedialite?

This is my first injured squirrel that I have received first hand - and I don't want to make a mistake

I'd start her on FV that is watered down. How long did the other people have her? How long has she been away from Mom?

Just a thought...keep the syringe below the baby's head..and tilt the nipple UP to his mouth...
Aspiration is a possibility if you feed in a downward angle.

Beautiful LITTLE ONE.

I don't think she was down on the ground long - they tried to reunite with the mother for about 45 minutes - but it was getting dark and afraid something would get it - I told them if they see the mother tomorrow to call me and we would try to see if the mother would take her back

Maybe a couple hours since she fell from the nest - at the most

When should I try to fed her some FV? - she took about 1/2 cc of pedialite about 45 minutes ago

stosh - I know - but I was trying to make sure she was swallowing - so I had to hold up that close so I could see - it stinks getting old LOL - my eyes are not what they used to be

Please go to this link, posts #16 and #17 about dehydration/rehydration. This should be a sticky.

It does not look like she can move her left side - her front paw looks swollen - and when she moves it looks like only her right side is moving her

I have infant ibuphroen and I have metcam - but it expired 4/11 - Do I need to give her any?? if so how much??

From what I can tell it looks like a nick - but it did bleed a bit - for her being so small = it does look better this morning = but what about her not using that side = when she goes to cuddle up in the fleece = she only uses her right side

If you go and look at the first pics - you can see her front paw is swollen = Do you think this might get better with that side?

when in doubt..I will absolutely give metacam..
it's going to help with any swelling..
and if the swelling is laying on a nerve..that can cause these symptoms.

as far as the metacam being outta date, this is one med, I would not worry about..
it's still very usable I would bet.:thumbsup
remember, baby must be hydrated well before using metacam, I know you know:thumbsup

and I am a weirdo, but I would give oral SMZ=TMP or a top shelf ABs as a precautionary...talons are nasty..for 5 days minimum, and re evaluate as she improves.

she's pretty

How much metcam? it is a liquid that I have
Where can I get SMZ=TMP? I have albon will that work?

This is my first injured squirrel that I have rescued - all my other squirrels that I have rehabbed came from the local rehabber after they were stablized and out of the woods

I have named her Lily

Need help - I have mis-placed all my squirrel notes since we had all the work done on the house - still searching

Lily is consitapated - she has pooped very little since I have had her - I have tried very watered down formula, gas drops, warm water bath and a little water downed apple juice - she has not pooped since yesterday morning - she has gained movement on left side - so that is better - she does have a little bruise above her back leg - don't know if that could be the problem??
I have even tried with the sprayer in the sink on warm water going up and down her lower belly - and this has always worked for me before 100%

What else can I try? How long can she go without pooping? and what do I feed her?
