If I recall correctly, it's the shell of the pit than can be bad.
Just keep an eye on the critter for a while, just to be safe.
If I remember right, the shell and twigs can produce a type of cyanide gas when digested.
I just hope the little stinker didn't eat too much of the pit shell.

called the vet. she said it causes major gastro problems. she said give her hydrogen peroxide till she threw up. i think 3 cc's would be plenty. won't throw up. geez. vet's gone home. caught her going out the door by phone

she'll be okay...cyanide is NOT water soluable.. it stays in our fat cells, accumulating until the cyanide reaches a toxic level..
I am not sure how much is in a cherry pit or how many pits it takes to reach toxic level, but I can assure you 100% it is not one pit.:thumbsup

Chances are, nothing bad is going to happen now.
If she hasn't barfed yet, she's not going to.
No more cherrys for the little monster.

I thank everyone responding. Talking about a scare! And I am so worried about the hydrogen peroxide doing more damage than the cherry seed. My gut said just leave her alone, but the vet said, so I did. Squirrels seems to have a good idea of what not to eat most of the time unless it's covered up with something else like they do with poison. Thanks again everyone.

If there was going to be an adverse reaction, you would have seen it by now.
Go feed the squirrel.:poke

I'm definitely not an expert, but hydrogen peroxide is often used to induce vomiting with dogs as well, you shouldn't have an adverse reaction to such a small amount :)
