My cat brought me a new born unhurt. How do I feed and care for it?

Can you take a picture of it and send it to me
elgara53@cfl.rr.com then we can figure how old and what to do from there
what kind of injuries do you see, cats can cause terrible infections

First off, get it into a plastic container (sterilite), with fleece half on a heating pad on low. Are there any visible injuries? Even if not, cat saliva is deadly and this baby will need antibiotics. Do you have a gram scale to weigh it? You say newborn, does it still have its imbilical cord or stump attached? Pinkies are not easy and with this having been in a cats mouth, it is even more involved. Would you be willing to pass this baby off to someone to take care of it if someone is close enough to?

As soon as I can find my camera I will send a picture. I could'nt find any puncture wounds or wounds of any kind. Thanks for replying back to me.

purple grey is not good.. could be dying, is it on heat, have you given it any hydration formula???
home made
1 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 quart water
or pedialyte...

I would hope she meant that the baby is old enough to have pigment, not a pinkie . Stacey

Yes the little guy is on a heating pad now, and I made some hydration formula. The little guy did drink about half a syringe full.

I just finished feeding the little guy again. This time he drank 1 1/2 syringes full.

wish you would answer some questions
Are his eyes open or closed
does he have any fur
Please make sure you warm up the hydration formula.
You can only give that for 24 hours then go to goats milk formula 3/1 ratio
or Fox Valley 3/1 ratio.

This baby needs hydration fluids and formula , he looks like he is starving.
What formula do you have for him , hydration is only 24 hours.
Try to get him at least on goats milk
start off 25/75 (gm/water)

3 parts goat’s milk
1 part heavy whipping cream*
1 part vanilla yogurt
make this up first then cut with 2/3 water
can we find someone in your area who has more experience to take the baby. He needs a little extra care right now.

Hi Tina Marie,

I would strongly recommend that you pass this guy off to a rehabber. like Sweet Simon' Mommy said, this guy is starving. Would you be willing to do that? What part of Va are you in?

I've been giving him the hydration fluid. He was doing good. I feed him twice in the middle of the night. He did good, but this morning when I tried to switch back to the puppy formula he won't drink plus he wasen't moving around much like he has been. I've been keeping him warm and I've been stimulating his privates so he would do his business. I'll try to feed him again in an hour.

If we find someone would you be able to do some driving?

Tina Marie

Yes I would let a rehabber bring him back to health. I don't want my little boop to die. He can get well can't he?

Hello!

I live in NE NC, and I'm just coming in the middle of all this!

I'd be happy to meet you somewhere, like the 17 rest stop in Camden County!

Only catch is, I don't know if my rehabber here in town is still rehabbing. I shall check. In the meantime, I can get you names of rehabbers close by! Please email me at mcj0801@gmail.com so we can talk and figure out what to do to help this sweetie!

I am in Maryland on the east side of Washington DC. Sounds like Chesapeake is quite south from there. Is that correct?

Ah ha!!! :alright.gif

I found some Chesapeake Rehabbers for you!!

You have quite a list! If no one in the Chesapeake area can take them, fiddle with the locations to find someone else near the Hampton Roads area.

If this doesn't work, email me ASAP and we'll figure out something!
