Unbelievable!! :shakehead No amount of alcohol is going to be good for it's kidneys let alone the other junk in that mix. Alcohol don't take long to get into the blood stream, personally I would try a few feedings of at least pedialyte to try and flush the junk out of it's system.

If you don't have pedialyte even water may help to dilute it. Flushing out her body is essential!

I would also suggest that you make a homemade mixture which will be like Pedialyte without the sodium:
2 cups very warm water
1. 5 tablespoons sugar.
drop of applesauce or juice for flavor
You can give this safely for the next 12 hours without overloading this baby's body with salt. And I'm praying for her too.

Thank you IR! :bowdown Could not have put it better!
First I had read this one and bit my tongue, then I went and read where the burnt baby passed. I could not hold it in any longer!
This one was yet another stupid occurrence over human neglect, the neglect being obviously the formula was not properly stored, labeled or even physically pointed out to the "sitter". :shakehead

This is exactly my thought... Poor babies :( I've almost cried at work twice now while reading threads on here. Especially the one about the boiling water. Made me sad all day.

Your sister was obviously inexperienced which leads me to ask you if you would leave a human baby with someone inexperienced to care for it?
Sorry Carlala, you were the one who was careless! This was your responsibility to make sure your sister knew where, what and how to feed, casting blame won't change that!
I too will be praying for your little one that she gets through this and hope we will be hearing a good update on her.

peroxide should have been given immediately.
I am pretty sure a vet would have done that, induce vomiting.

I agree, poor decisions were made here, but attacking will only chase her off. Please update on this baby. I am pretty sure she feels horrible about this happening. Can't go back, can only go forward and do much better in the future. I just pray this baby is ok.

my sister works at the vet she is the one who brought it home I told her exactally what the formula was in labeled with gabbys formula on the top and she picked a water bottle that looked nothing like it I am overly careful with my babies she has helpped with babies many times and nothing like this has ever happened. stupidity played a part in this but not mine I was at work my sister lives with me and has interaction with the baby everyday she knows what i keep her formula in and I had talked to her 3 mins before and told her what it was in and where it was at she didnt pay attention I dont know why she wouldnt but i cant go back and even if I could I wouldnt have been able to do anything different except not leave gabby with my sister.
so far gabby is fine she is being her normal sweet hyper self. im still keeping a close eye on her but there was such a small amount of liquor in what she got I dont think it will cause any permenant damage the drink itself was only 12% alchol and then I added a bunch of milk so it ended up being like 2% which for a tiny squirrel is a lot but hopefully not enough to cause long term damage
I didnt know you could use proxcide with a squirrel? she was rushed to the vet right away and the vet sent sub q fluids and said to watch her and if she was dehydrated give sub q otherwise she should be fine.

I just want to say to everyone who passed judgement on me for this I really do know what I am doing and I really do care about my babies even with human babies mistakes happen. this is not me being ok with what happened but I cant change it either. I came for advice not to be told I was negligent and although I can handle a bit of criticism for my short commings others may not be able to and I would rather people feel comfortable asking for advice rather than having babies die because people were afraid to ask how to fix it

You are absolutely right, people should feel comfortable asking for help without feeling as though they are being scolded.
I myself have jumped on people, and most likely will again.:shakehead
It's just that seeing death, and suffering as much as some of us do on a daily basis, makes us "snap".
We try hard to hold our tongues....but we are human, as are you.
Thank you for looking for help as soon as you learned of the mistake.

Carlala you are very right about not being made to feel too bad to ask for help. I was just so horrified by what happened, as I know you were, that I said judgmental things. I am glad that you are still here and seeking advice from TSB. We do all make mistakes, and not trying to correct them is where the trouble lies. I apologize.

It sounds like it was just a terrible, stupid mistake... not negligence, to me. That said, I think everyone is extra sensitive about the recent death due to a burn scald which WAS due to negligence.
I only hope that the baby didn't consume enough to make this life threatening.

i understand everyone being upset because its sad to see babies die from mistakes made but everyone makes them. I am by no means saying that what happened was ok but at the same time everyone has made mistakes and had close calls we are all human

It's true, we can only do our best to minimize our mistakes.
When we're inexperienced it's a lot easier to make mistakes though... I'm sure many of the people on TSB have this down to an artform, which makes our newbie mistakes looks completely idiotic. :thumbsup

thank you for apologizing however it is unnesscary I know that seeing stuff that can hurt babies is upseting I just dont want anyone to say anything to someone that could chase them away or make them afraid to ask for help
also i dont think enough was consumed to hurt it had I not saw the missed call and called back within a minute it could have been but because i stopped her before she finished the feeding i think that the baby will be fine

In the mean time...how is the baby??
Mine got a hold of some zinc oxide not too long ago,( I still say she opened the drawer to get it) She threw up and had the runs for about 2 hours. I felt awful and was afraid to post for help because it was a STUPID mistake, all the babies that have passed through my hands
...humane, puppies and now squirrels...I do know better,( the squirrel in the kitchen I can not forgive, nothing that cant cook should be allowed in the kitchen.)
You did not do this ...someone else did,
your feeling of guilt and horror are enough punishment for you, you will be more careful, have better signs on food or better communication with the sitter next time.
We all have to be careful and posts like this are just a reminder of what things can go wrong and HELP US ALL to watch more and take a little extra step every now and then to be extra careful.

baby is doing just fine playful as ever she was a bit hung over for a day and then completly fine like nothing ever happened. =) i agree squirrels dont belong in the kitchen or at least near hot stoves i wouldnt do anything with a squirrel i wouldnt do with a baby. i love my babies for a long while i even took her to work with me when she was small enough to fit in my lunchbox purse i didnt zip it i just put a blanket in it and covered her with it and she would sleep and then i would hide and feed her. my boss knew her kids didnt but she would only eat for me she is still fussy and only likes me.
