I got in today a 2 or three day old if that, with the ambilical cord still on. I saw her nest where she fell out of and I'm sure birds had gotten her and dropped her because of gashes in her side. She has a big bump on her head and when I first got her I noticed some clear fluid coming out of her nose and little bubbles coming out of her nose. I tried to feed her but not much interest. She was hydrated because when she peed after being stimulated it was clear and perfect. She pooped good too.

Problem now is she is getting worse. I did give her a dose of amox cause I figured it could not hurt in case of respiratory issues. Honestly, I've never had one this young. Now she has blood coming out of her nose. She keeps her mouth open and is moving around less and less.

I'm keeping her warm and I've been putting a drop of sugar water in her mouth every once in a while. She is going down hill. I have not aspirated her but I really don't think she is swallowing, she is just spitting everything out. I've given up on the fox valley so now its just sugar water.

Honestly, has anyone out there seen one with head injuries and blood coming out of nose and had a survivor? She was also covered in ants when the person found her. I see no bites but I know they can take a day or two to come out.

This poor girl has everything going against her for such a tiny, infant. She is starting to loose that pink in her too and getting pale. Any ideas?

I hate seeing them die and I want to make sure I've done everything I could.

Thanks in advance.

This should be easier to see. The camera I have has gone bad, these were the best I could come up with. Its killing me thinking she is suffering.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Do you have anything such as a small dropper you could gently try to suction her nose? It may help her breathing.
Tubing could be an option for nourishment but only if you were experienced in doing it.
Hard to tell what or how bad all her injuries are, ants venom could be deadly to one so young and already within her system.
I don't have to tell you she looks bad. I would hold her close to your skin, keep her warm and quiet. It may be all you can do for
this baby at this point is to help her pass as comfortable as she can. :grouphug

Honestly, she is not interested in eating at all. I will try holding her close and see if that helps. At least just to comfort her. She must have been gotten by a bird because I see gashes on both her sides. They look fine and that is the least of her problem. The bump on her head is what I'm worried about, maybe causing the bleeding out her nose. She is still making noise but her movements are getting weaker and weaker.

I'm not experienced in tubing but honestly with the internal bleeding, I'm not sure if tubing her would be a great idea right now. I just have been putting drops in her mouth and letting her swallow them. No aspiration or anything but she is not eating that much at all. She has eaten a half of cc since I got her this afternoon. The good thing is there is no blood in her stool or urine. I think the bleeding is coming from her brain.

I was hoping someone on here could tell me they have seen that before and seen them pull through from this.

Thanks for the advice. I'll stay up with her all night if I have to. She had a big fall from her nest and fell on concrete. If she survives, she would be one tuff cookie. I'm naming her Missy because I keep saying to her, "come on Missy, get better," so its sticking.

Please say a prayer for her all that read this. If she goes, I want it to be quick. I hate them suffering.

Thanks for your advice. :thankyou

Vicky

Would you have any molasses you could rub on her gums?
Landing on concrete hard to tell where the bleeding is coming from, could even be her nose itself.
Is the head bump hard (ish) or soft? Has it gone down or gotten any bigger?

I would try to gently suction her nose out. Do you have a nebulizer? If you do I would put saline in it and give her a few breathing treatments. Keep her very warm while you are doing this. Pinkies like to be very warm.

vicky, if she is still with us this morning but has not improved, I would not be optimistic at all for poor Missy. She looks like a bad bird attack, with internal injuries to me. She is gasping (agonal breathing?) in the pix. Poor little one, sometimes that final gift is the best you can do for ones like this. :(

She passed last night. I buried her a little while ago. Her poor little body was bruised up and she just had no chance. Gosh, it doesn't get any easier watching them suffer and die.

RIP little Missy

Thanks for all your help, so glad I have you guys.

At least she passed with someone caring for her and not alone.

Vicky you did all you could, as much as you wanted more you met your calling for this little one. And that was to keep her safe and loved so she could continue her journey to the other side. Bless you for helping her. :grouphug

Dying is a part of living. It's the dying alone, unloved and uncomforted that's so awful. Remember this by our own beloved Muffinsquirrel?

"Some little ones come into this world under bad circumstances. Although, for whatever reason, they have no future in this world, it is not yet their time to leave it. So God places them with someone with an abundance of love, compassion, and gentleness - someone that can hold His creatures in their hands until it is time for them to pass into His. So always remember that you were chosen for this task for a reason - God knew that you were the one person that could fill this particular squirrel's needs in this world until it was time for him to go Home. You have done your job well. Mourn the briefness of his life, but rejoice in the time you had with God's wonderful creature, and the faith that God had in you when He entrusted it's short life to you."

Go in peace little one
Be at peace Vicky

There's a very fine lady she's with now.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Its not even funny how a few hours of holding this little one breaks my heart. You guys are awesome. Chickenlegs, those were beautiful words. And the tears start again. I had to go in my yard and call my babies that are released. Its like they knew and three of them came running up to comfort me and show me that in the long run it is worth the bad times.

Of course then they started fighting and I had to break it up and split up their snacks so they would not fight. :) What sweeties they are but they don't share their food too well.

Even my Alvin came today and jumped on my shoulder.

Squirrels are wonderful animals.

It never gets easier, it always tears you up inside... I know that too well. She had you to reassure her for that long voyage back Home, and that is the best you could have given her. Go ahead and seek comfort from your little ones, the ones who live with you... Alvin already lets you know heès there for you. :grouphug :Love_Icon :grouphug

R.I.P. little baby girl. Go free and happy forever.
