My husband found a female tree squirrel this morning laying on her back on the sidewalk. She's in a basket and unable to ambulate on her rear legs. Her front legs do work. It is exceptionally hot in Cleveland Ohio today.
I've placed here in a basket with leaves and water. I put some nuts and grapes in there but she's not interested.
If there are any rehabber's in the area, please help!

I am trying to find you some help. Do you have a cat carrier that you could put it into with some fleece or maybe old tee shirts or flannel shirts? No towels as their nails get caught in the loops. Is she inside or outside? If inside where it cooler, you can put the carrier half on a heating pad so she ca get off of it is she gets too hot.

SquirrelsRuleandBunniestoo is in NE Ohio. She is a rehabber. I sent her a PM, hopefully she is home and can get online.
For now, warm , dark, quiet (no kids, animals, tv's, loud radio, etc.) Put something in the box for her to burrow into (t-shirt, fleece, baby blanket flannel...anything that does NOT have open loops mostly seen on towels)
Place a shallow dish of water in with her. Maybe a small piece of watermelon or a few grapes cut in half. Apple chunks, raw green beans, broccoli are good too.

I sent the PM to Squirrelsrule&bunniestoo (SR&BT) with a link to this thread. Can you tell us the County you are located in...this info will help SR&BT determine how close she is to you and it will also assist the rest of us with finding a rehabber in your general vicinity, if SR&BT is too far away.

I'm in Cuyahoga County-I live on the Westside of Cleveland. I've placed her in a box with some fleece. She's upstairs on my rear porch. In the shaded area. I put a dish of water, some fresh grapes, blueberries and pecans.
It doesnt look good. She appears to be unresponsive. She is not moving at all and I wonder if she is dead from the stress of it all. I'm going to leave her alone.
I dont have a cat carrier. The only pets I have are my squirrels outside.

Thanks. I found SR&BT's rehab name and phone. I called and left her a message.
I havent checked on the female squirrel as I wanted to leave her in peace. She may be dead ........ :(
In a panic I said grey squirrel, she's a fox.
Incidentally, SR&BT's rehab is a non-profit that I donated to last year. It wasnt much but every little but helps. For all of you who read this, please try to help out the non-profit rehabbers in your area.
Thank you for the prompt response to my inquiry.

Thank you for trying to help her. You done so much more than many others would. You gave her safety and comfort as she made her journey to the Bridge. Only because of you did she know that some humans have a kind hand and a big heart. Thank you.
Rest in Peace Beautiful Foxer Girl.
