Oh, I am so glad I figured out how to post. I joined this morning, but I am not very good at knowing how to post in forums, and just figured it out.

My sons found a vole on Tuesday, and we totally thought he was going to die...he looked horrible. But we took him home so he could at least spend his last hour in peace. Well, lo and behold he totally rallied. We researched like mad on the internet...and fed him Pedialyte the first day, and then switched him to Esbilac. He was thriving. But now he looks soooo skinny to me. And he doesn't seem as active as he was a few days ago.

We have completely fallen in love....doing the whole feeding every two hours...and helping him poop and pee...etc. (How can you not fall in love when you do all that.) Can anyone help me with what else I can do? I live where all the fires are in CO and the rescue places are so overwhelmed....there is no way anyone would take as good care of him as we are. I would welcome any suggestions anyone could give. I want him to make it....

OH NO....he is gone. I just went to check on him....and he is gone. I have no idea how to break this to my kids tomorrow.

Thank you anyway...I guess I don't need any help anymore.

This really stinks.....

So sorry Mer :(
Are you sure it was a baby? I dont know muchabout them, but do know that their life-span is only 3-6 months. Maybe it was an adult nearing the end? Maybe you just gave him and extra week with your TLC :grouphug

No...he was a baby....his eyes weren't even open yet.

Since I just joined I'm not allowed to post pictures, but if you go to this website you can see him....he was so cute.

Definitely a baby! How precious!
Sounds like you tried your very best. My prayers to all of you there and all the poor animals affected by the fire. :Love_Icon

Yes, that is definitely a baby. I have taken care of mice that age. It is virtually impossible. It's not an easy task. It is great that you cared and tried your best. Not many people would. Thank you for helping him.

mer, you are wonderful for trying to save this little one. Nothing is harder than baby voles and mice....so many of us have tried. Tell your kids about the Bridge, if they don't already know, and how sometimes it's our job to safely bring the little babies there when it's time for them to cross. :grouphug

"Some little ones come into this world under bad circumstances. Although, for whatever reason, they have no future in this world, it is not yet their time to leave it. So God places them with someone with an abundance of love, compassion, and gentleness - someone that can hold His creatures in their hands until it is time for them to pass into His. So always remember that you were chosen for this task for a reason - God knew that you were the one person that could fill this particular squirrel's needs in this world until it was time for him to go Home. You have done your job well. Mourn the briefness of his life, but rejoice in the time you had with God's wonderful creature, and the faith that God had in you when He entrusted it's short life to you."
