I live In Ocean County N.J. I have at least 8 squirrels that have been shot by pellets. I have caught 3 and gave them to a Rehabber who could not get anyone to take care of them and they died. I want to help them but I can't find anyone to look at them. I tried Pop Corn Zoo But he is to busy and does not return phone calls. I know a place in that is almost 2 hours away but everyone said not to take them there because they put them to sleep instead of helping them. I have been feeding them for 5 years and I know that they have killed at least 10.I have reported it to everyone. I know there are more people doing it but I can watch everyone. I feel it is a lost cause. Can anyone help.
Unless the person/s are actually caught or videoed in the act, there really isn't much that can be done.
If you witness it happening, Give the police a call and ask them nicely if someone could just talk with that person.
That person will then be aware they have been observed, and may stop them.

Good suggestion, Skul....unfortunately in some areas squirrels are not protected and are considered "vermin". I am moving this thread to Emergency Life Threatening because someone in NJ may have better info for you, as well --
I think TSB needs to form a Squirrel Posse......:soapbox

If they are shooting a pellet gun in a public area or even in the back yard of a residential area, contact the local municipality, as it is most likely illegal to discharge a firearm in public/residential areas.
This is how I got the guy 2 doors down from me to stop. I could hear the pellets ricocheting off the trees and other items. I was scared to go into my own back yard for fear of loosing an eye. I called the police and 6 cruisers showed up...yeah go ahead idiot shoot the pelllet gun into the back yard from inside your dining room...idiot. Have not seen or heard the pellet gun since.
EDIT: Not once did I even mention squirrels or bunnies or any sort of wildlife...the only thing I said was that I too scared to go into my own back yard because of his stupid actions.
