I found an injured spring baby squirrel. It can't stand up to eat. It falls over onto it's side and eats in that position then it seems to have spasms where it's legs jerk about. I think it's been this way for almost 2 weeks. When it tries to run, it can travel a distance, but it flops around when it does. I just caught it today. I have it in a small, have-a-heart cage with a rice buddy and a fleece blankie. For the past few days it has been eatting hazelnuts and avocados. Please help me help it. I need to know:
What to do to get it through the night
How to rehab it
Can it eventually be returned to the outdoor environment

:Welcome :wave123
if you can post a pic, it will help us to know what breed of sq you have,
eastern, western, red or foxer...
some sqs are illegal and will be put down reguardless of their condition.
We can try tp finf sq safe vet or rehabber to help.
also where are you in Washington? It may help to expedite a rehabber in your area.
You can give brief location such as county or town, TY.
Keeping him in a small container with a heating pad set on low, place UNDER half of the container. Cover the entire container but make sure there are air holes..
keeping it covered will help him feel safe, not stalked.
Use tshirts inside for him to hide in, NOT TOWELS. nails get caught, limbs can twist and further injure.
Thank you for helping him!

Update
The squirrel is in rehab. The kind man who took her, called and informed me that she was a mom, so I've been putting nuts out and keeping an eye out for babies. Thank you for your help and concern.

Keep an ear out for high pitched crying, it will almost sound like a bird.
