The ants have realized they have a source of food from the squirrels leftovers and are congregating in the release cage. They're the black kind and as far as I know, don't bite, but I no likey!
Besides cleaning the food out as well as I can and taking the food away when they're finished eating... is there any way to discourage these little buggers?

I have had that problem before. Earwigs too.
I place their food bowls in a larger, wider bowl filled with enough water so the ants have not ground to crawl on. You could also use a quiche dish or other type of ceramic cooking ware. I've used metal bakeware but the water made them rust. Not a big deal if its something you picked up from a thrift store or garage sale.

You will also want to go through their nestboxes or wherever they sleep and pull out any fruit/veggies they may have taken to bed with them.
Good Luck.

GOOD one! :bowdown I'm not too worried about ants in the bottom, I really don't want them climbing all over their fresh food dish so this is perfect.
I don't have to worry about the nest box because only one of them has figured out how to use it!
