Pips fingertips are starting to swell. Could this be an allergic reaction?

The only thing different I’ve done is introduced green beans and mixed calcium (that I got from Henry’s website) to her water…

Don't think I am cut out for this :-(... If someone in SC would like to take over, I will drive her to wherever, I just want her to be healthy and happy...

I'm trying to snap a picture ... It's the bottom of her pads. Wasn't like this yesterday..

Could it be from the light on top of her cage? She could have touched the bulb..

This is the best picture I can get...

This is on all fours, and not on her body...

please do remove the light...

also, I do not advise giving anything in her water...just water...
I am not sure what product you have from Henry's site, but none are advised for adding to drinking water.
I know several members that are 2 plus hours away from you..
I will send a few Pms out..
hang in there!:grouphug :thankyou :bowdown
PS, I cannot see her paws in the pic..it's too big and my moniter isn't good enough..ugh.

Thanks, Again, I am Angry with myself...:frustratedx

It doesn't seem to bother her... Her paws were never like that before.

I did remove the light, and Replaced her water back to just water.. I just added the calcium to it yesterday. It's the Calcium Carbonate Powder from http://www.henryspets.com/calcium-carbonate-powder/

She's not outside and is why I had the light and add calcium to her foods.

I would never do anything to hurt her.. and I feel she did touch the light. I don't think it's the pox, but I am not an expert at this... She's the first squirrel I've rescued.

Thanks so much for your help.

I fixed it on the other thread also, we have some really good rehabbers in SC. Don't beat your self up, we all started out just like you, not knowing and trying. I say good for you and thank you for caring.

It already seems to be going down. My normal routine is turning the light on when I feed her, which I did around 7:30 this morning and turned of before 9 and opened both windows by her cage. I noticed it when I wrote the post..

It doesn't seem to bother her. I have an aloe plant, do you think I can rub that on it or will it be harmful?

Thanks, I've been bawling over it! She's the sweetest little thing. She has made me look at squirrels differently. Not that I ever disliked them, but I never knew what wonderful creatures they were…

corear1014,

I'm not familiar with those lights but I am familiar with the uv rays from the sun. Could this be like a sunburn? Burns from the sun can be severe. I wouldn't think she could have touched the bulb with all 4 feet. Her hair would have protected her body but those little feet wouldn't be shielded from those rays. What do others think about this idea?:dono

Oh, One other thing --does the wire on the top of the cage get very hot while it is on?

Looks like she may have touched it with her foot (it is quite red on one of them). Issue is anything you put on her feet, she will lick off. I would keep a good eye on them (def. remove the light) and watch for signs of a problem (skin getting darker, almost looking black, as that could be a sign of a circulation issue) or for her biting at her foot. Make sure she is well hydrated, as well. What most likely happened is the cage bar got very hot from the light, she was climbing and grabbed the wire and burned the pad (based on what I see in the pic.)

More pics.

She is still her spunky self, eating, drinking etc. These are not on her body just all four feet.

Thanks again..

So, I googled squirrels feet last night and looked at images, not happy with all the pictures that came up, but from what I saw the paws are supposed to look like that. LOL! Maybe not as red as my first photo. I thought her pads looked like blisters.. Guess I’ve never noticed before. Please be patient with me. I do over react a bit as I’m still learning. If anything, maybe my post gave the experts a good laugh! I’ll wait a little next time before I send out a 911 post!

Also, I wheeled Pip’s cage to our deck around 6pm yesterday. She actually loved it that time. (I stayed with her of course, lol). We were out there for about an hour.
