I was leaving my moms house today and saw a chipunk that had apparently been hit by a car in the street, I could see it moving around so I stopped. I couldnt leave the poor little guy in the road to be crushed so I picked it up with a sweat shirt I had in my car. I noticed when I picked it up that it had blood coming from its nose and one of its eyeshad blood comeing from it. It did crawl out of the sweat shirt a couple of times in the car but it is breathing really heavy and it sounds like it may have blood in its lungs. I work in a pet store so I stopped and grabbed a cage and set him up in that, it hasent moved often but it does walk around the cage once in awhile. I dont think it is going to make it, it sounds like its having alot of troubble breathing and I can hear alot of fluid in its lungs, is there anything I can do to help or at least something I can do to ease its pain. I would love to see it pull through. Anything I can do I just need some advice.
Im not sure the age of the chipmunk at this point either.

Awww, poor thing. Quiet and dark, and maybe put a heating pad under half the cage (cover the cage, too). I don't think there is a lot you can do, but having a safe place...

I figured out the dosage and gave it to him, he took it from the seringe no problem. I also offered him his water bottle and he drank a little bit of water too. I hope he starts to perk up a little after his meds kick in. He is really lethargic right now. I also need to try to figure out how old he is so I know if I should be bottle feeding him. He isnt a super young baby, eyes are open, has his stripes, but dosnt look like a full grown adult. I have 2 baby squirels that I have been taking care of since they were around 6 weeks old, I bottle fed them and they are doing great. They were both injury free so that was a bit more straight forward than this. Poor little chipmunk, I hope the little guy can recover, but the fluid sound in the lungs and heavy breathing really makes me nervouse. I guess now aside from figuring out his diatary needs (if he needs formula) all I can do is hope he will make it through the night and decide where to go from there. Thanks for your help the IBU was a great call.

If you have formula you can try giving him a little, even if he is older, it won't hurt him. Do you have a syringe, or just a bottle? What kind of formula are you using? How old are your little squirrels now?
Please when you get a chance read our nutriton section. It's amazing what you think you're doing right with the feeding....and how you can be so wrong....:)
Yes, guilty as charged....:D

Might try some Rescue Remedy along with the Ibuprofen--help ease the stress. Poor little guy is terrified and hurts. Loving vibes sweet Chippy. :Love_Icon Thank you SO much for stopping. Most folks won't.

Bottles for something this size - or your squirrels for that matter isn't recommended - we prefer small syringes for feeding here - more control, less aspiration.:thumbsup
That said, if he will take some formula regardless of his age it will be a good idea.
I would be giving him hydration fluid as well - pedialyte or homemade -
1 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 quart water.

I use a seringe as suggested through reading when I did loads of research when I first got the squirrels. I always do a ton of research when I get a new animal of any kind. I use the puppy milk replacer by esiblanc..not sure if I spelled it right. The squirrels are about 14 weeks old now, eating well and very active and extremely friendly. They are getting big fast, I love watching them chase eachother and wrestle, they are super cute

I gave him some hydration fluid and he drank it no problem. When I finnished giving him the fuid I got him to pee. Im not sure if hes going on his own. I havent noticed him go on his own yet, so I figured Id be safe and stimulate so he would go.
