I thought squirrels only ate the eggs, but I just saw a squirrel eat at least 2 or 3 baby birds. I knew something was going on and I thought the birds had gotten the squirrel cause it had blood around my it's mouth, but then it jumped right into the cardinals nest and grabbaed a baby bird and started eating it. Yuk! I think all the babies are gone now! :(

They most certainly eat baby birds and also baby bunnies....
Nature can be cruel....

I just can't figure out how the eggs even survived for the incubation period! The babie had their feathers. I guess the squirrels are needing calcium? I'm in Louisiana so there is plenty for them to eat. Not sure what they are needing in eating baby birds besides calcium or protein. Where do squirrels get their protein when eggs or babies aren't around in the wild?
