Been a while!

Hey guys. I joined..I believe 4 or 5 years ago with a rescue squirrel whom was named Sam. He was given to a rehabber and very nearly died (very very sick baby.)

Anyway. I've had other squirrels since then and successfully released a male named Izzy. This year I got a very sick little one with horrid mange who, if left for a couple more hours, would have died. I've had him for about a month, maybe 2 months. His fur is growing back now.

However..I've come up against something I've never seen before. He is friendly. More than friendly. He begs for me to pet him. He grooms my hands. I don't know how it happened and for a fox squirrel..that's a bit odd.

So, it is starting to look like I may have a permanent resident.

But, anyway, I am back! :D

I took this earlier. He's still pretty naked from the mange but is better than before for sure!

Well....he grew up. I decided he needed to have the choice of going free or not. He spent a couple months in a release cage, and this morning, I opened the door. He's free, being a squirrel. It's bittersweet of course, since I love him very much...but he will be happiest free, and I will still see him.

It's hard to do, but in my mind it's the best thing to do. Good Job!!!

He was a joy to raise, one of my sweeter fox squirrels. I want him to be free although I do worry, of course.. I was closer to him than I have been other babies since he was so young and required so much hands on care for his skin. (ointments and such)
