Hi, I found an injured squirrel in the lane next to my home. He will only crawl and try to hide in some ivy. I want to do what is best for him so as not to cause any more physical or emotional trauma....

Is it a baby?
Can you see what kind of injury it is?
Are you able to pick him up, place him a secure container with some blankets/t-shirts/fleece and put him in a warm, dark, quiet place?

EDIT: Keep refreshing your screen so you are able to see posts as they come up. Our experts should be here soon.

Thanks Nancy & SammysMom, have not done anything yet but I am very close by the area and can at least take care of until I can get a rehabber involved.

Hi everyone...I think he was a young adult. I picked him up very carefully and put him in a warm blanket lined box and gave him some water thru a syringe. after picking him up I saw that he had a pretty bad abdomen wound. He could not walk at all. I took him to a vet to be looked at and they said he was probably in a lot of pain so I took him to be humanely euthanized. I just didn't want him alone and in pain.....Thanks so much for your help. tomics, if I had seen your post before I took him to the vet , I would have contacted you for sure. You guys are the BEST!

I didn't know about the refreshing my screen thing....Am new to this and didn't think that anyone was responding. :(

danceswthdogs, It is always nice to hear about people who care enough to try to help a wounded squirrel (or other wild). I pray the little one did not suffer too much and knew he had someone that was trying to help him.
I live close by you, so if it ever happens again feel free to PM (Private Message) me too or start a new thread. There are a lot of experienced members on this board that can always help, they really are amazing.
