My hubby's on the way to pick up a baby chippy who was brought home by a cat. They say there aren't any puncture wounds... we shall see.
I have baytril already mixed up... I have it diluted it to 1mg per ml, just to simplify the dosing.
Given this, how many mg of baytril per gram should I be giving the little guy?
I don't have a weight on the little chippy yet... The girl who found it said she thought it was three weeks old from what research she did... has fur, eyes are closed.
Oy vey! Poor little one! I hope she survives...

you have diluted it too much.
What form of baytril do you have?
do you have any more?

I have more Baytril, but it was so hard to dose... I just added a bit more water and voila, easier to give it to them. I don't see why the amount of water matters as long as you give the same amount of medication? :thinking
It's a little girl. She was completely immobile, but I dropped a couple mls of FV in her mouth bit by bit and she's creeping around so no broken limbs :alright.gif No puncture wounds :wott
She's one lucky chippy!

is she hydrated? Feed formula only if the animal is hydrated and warm.
I can only help if you want it.
Yes the amount of ABs matters and needs to be accurate.
A probiotic is advised with baytril.
good luck baby chippie:Love_Icon

The more water you add the more diluted the med becomes. Not sure how you are going to dose this. Jackie is excellent at breaking down meds and getting the accurate dose amount....just saying.
I have also heard that abs should be given regardless of puncture wounds, that even sat saliva can kill.

Yeah I'm going to start the from scratch... doing the math here is killing my brain.
I remember from before I'm supposed to crush a 50mg tablet into 4ml of water, and for a 70 gram squee I was to give one drop in the morning and at night.
This little one isn't even registering on my scale, that's how tiny she is. Maybe 5 grams? She's a featherweight.

Use the smallest syringe that you have, do you have a dosing syringe? The drop that you give her should be less than a drop if you know what I mean....so the smaller syringe is best.
Just for reference, a quarter is 6 grams.:)

She seems totally fine, actually. Not dehydrated and she was nice and toasty warm... not even all that scared, really. I thought at first that she was dead... nope, just sleeping :rotfl *whew!* Once she woke up she started creeping around and looking about. Her eyes are actually open but *just*.

The dosing above would have made a dilution of 12.5mg/ml
for a 70 gram sq the correct dose ONCE a day would be 0.06ml
I tested it, it's about three drops actually.
Using drops as a measurement is not accurate imo.
Now that you have ck'ed the sq thoroughly and see no wounds, will you still give the meds?
can you take a pic?
can you borrow a scale that has the ability to weigh in grams?

Well, she's definitely bigger than a quarter... rofl!
Here's a picture of the little gal. I have no idea how big she is and my scale's a piece of poo. She's about 3.5" from nose to the tip of her tail.

I just picked up some 1cc syringes ... will that be small enough?

I just measured her length and apparently my eyeballed measurement was way off. She's actually a hair shy of 5" from nose to tip of tail. She's all head though, man it's a miracle they can even lift their giant noggins!
I just looked in my past emails and I guess my memory confused to different pieces of advice I had been given... one person said 50mg crushed into 10ml water, 1 drop twice daily. The other said 50mg crushed into 4ml water, .05mg daily.
So without a weight... how can I figure out what to dose little Chiquita the chippy?

I guess that answers my previous question. :D To clarify, a tiny drop once a day or twice?
I just read for precautionary antibiotic dosing for cat bites it should be given 3 to 5 days as opposed to 5 to 7 days for an infection... thoughts?

Thanks!
She's fine and dandy this morning, took 2.5cc first thing at 6am and 2cc just now, and I just gave her the baytril.
She's so stinkin cute too! My parents love chipmunks, so I'm going to release her at their house when she's ready.
