I posted a couple of weeks ago that my Patricia (my released squirrel had died). Her sister I noticed today has a bloody stool too. They were nesting together in the wild. Since Patricia died, Katrina has been staying close to home, here every day. Today I noticed that there was blood on my chair from her after she jumped off. She has blood in her stool too. Its too much of coincidence with her sister just dying. What do I do for her. I can put antibiotics in her alvacados that I give her. I have amox for my son that is still good. I can't get baytril, the vet wont help me out with a released squirrel. I don't want to let her die too.
Will it hurt her if it is not parasites?
She is full grown and I'm not getting a weight on her. She won't let me touch her. My plan is to inject it in the alvacado and make sure she eats it. Is this what you do for parasites? What else could cause a bloody stool? She is acting normal but sooo skinny.
Please help. I don't want to see one more of these babies die. They all still eat at home but are released. The others are fine. I've seen their poop and they are ok.
Oh, I can also get Cipro too and dilute it. I just need a dose on a full grown, but smaller side squirrel. If I under dose it would be better then doing nothing for her at all.
Here is a picture of her. (by the way, the mixed nuts were mine. I never give them salted nuts, this was the only time she had gotten them, they eat veggies and mixed shelled nuts). She took the lid off herself which is why I snapped the picture. :rotfl

Just checking in to see if any one has contacted you via PM to give you dosage for the Cipro?
If not, please try sending Jackie in Tampa a PM --she can does the Cipro.

Antibiotics won't help if it's parasites.....you need flagyl, strongid, or the like for that. My concern with a bloody stool, however, is rat poison. Do you think there is any around, and could she have ingested it? :(

My thoughts are the same as IR. I don't like to say it:nono but is there a possibilty that someone around you is putting out poison.

No, there is no poison in the area unless its natural. I know all my neighbors and talked them after Patty died. They were devastated when she died and promised me they are all careful in their yards. I have woods that they live in behind my house and they really don't venture into anyone else's yards that I know of. I did go to the vet today and was given amox and a dewormer. I got all of them to take the de-wormer by injecting it in their piece of alvacado. The amox she gave me the dose, 1ml twice per day and I got Katrina to eat that. Its going to be challenging to get Katrina these meds everyday. Good thing she likes alvacados.
I don't know if its parasites but I'm going to treat her and the others for that too for three days. I'll give her the antibiotics for five twice per day. Whatever is wrong with her was what killed Patricia. I have to do all I can to make sure she makes it. I even got some flea stuff but I'm going to hold up on that until they are all done with these meds. I don't want to shock their systems with all these chemicals. They are covered in fleas poor things. I just feel sorry for them there, the itching and scratching they are doing. This will give them a month of some relief.
They are wild now but still my pets. I can't help but to take care of them the best I can. I just hate to see an animal die if there is something I can do about it. The vet said she cannot guess but these two medications should take care of it. She said there was one more thing we could try if these two things do not work. Lets keep our fingers crossed. She is so skinny.
Thanks everyone for your help. I'll keep you updated.

Oh, another thing, I know its not rat poison because all of my neighbors have those little dust mop dogs running around their yards. No way they are going to poison their own animals. Does anyone have a clue as to what it could be. The poop is watery with blood. I think you guys would be able to guess at this better then the vet.
Thanks again.

I really don't know what could cause bloody stools, could be a bad mushroom to someones garbage to parasites to internal injuries from a fall, it could be any thing.
What did you get for fleas?? The only safe thing is Revolution for kittens and its only a small drop.
capstar is also used, NO FRONTLINE!!!

Yes, revolution for kittens and only a tiny bit on each of them. I am going to measure it out in the syringe when I open the package. They have all had it before at one time or another because they all had fleas when I got them and the vet did give it to me. I just hate to see them suffer from these bugs. Fleas are bad this time of year here. The poor things are just covered.
As far as an internal injury, its just too much of a coincidence that Patricia, her sister, just died with a bloody stool. Maybe I'm over reacting but I don't want to see anything happen to her. Since her sister died, she moved back into the cage I released her out of because her and her sister were nesting together. She stays around my house now all the time. She misses sissy. I just feel so bad for her. Now she is getting sick.
What about Giardia? That is what I was thinking. From what I know about that, it is contagious from one animal to another. The vet said the amox will kill that and it was a possibility. Thanks again, even for just listening to me drone on about it. Just worried.
I'm going to throw out one more idea.
Being a female, could or would a UTI have that indication?:thinking

Coccidia gives chickens bloody stools and I think squirrels too. Can you get a sample and run it by a vet?

What is Coccidia? A lot of my neighbors have chickens as well. She seems to be doing better and taking her meds ok. I noticed today that she keeps biting at her bottom. That could be normal I never watch them that close out there until now. What cures that? Will it kill them?
She seems to be doing ok now but she has never shown signs except the bloody stool that she was sick. She is on the dewormer as well as amox. Have not been able to see her droppings yet. I'm keeping an eye out.
Thanks.
