Indirectly this is for Frick. A cat has been roaming around the neighborhood lately. Friendly and doesn't seem to be afraid of people. She wandered over to where Frick hangs out so I tried to have Elvis and Vegas scare her off....it worked that night, but she showed back up sporadically. Today she is hanging out on the porch where FRICK EATS EVERY DAY! This is not going to work and NOBODY will take her....I'm in Fredericksburg VA....can ANYONE help or know somebody that can. I hate to think of what will happen to her in the shelter....but I can't risk Frick getting hurt. Elvis got loose and chased her today, but she STILL came back - once she climbed down from the tree she ran up.

Unfortunately if she is a stray, most likely hungry, she is going to hunt for food. It is the nature of the cat. I would try to search for a no-kill shelter to take her to as most places won't even bother coming out for a cat anyway. In the meantime, water! Get a hose, a soaker gun, whatever, and spray her every time you even see her in the area. She may not be afraid of people in general but she can become afraid of a person.
I use my dog to chase cats out of my yard, very effective as he's one big Lab. What I know and they don't is if they stood still and he caught up to them he would probably just lick them. :rotfl But having a 95lb black dog running down on them is enough to make them take off and not tempt fate. For the one's he's had to chase they only try to come back once or twice with the same results and then I never see them anymore. :dono

IMO:
A shelter with the possibility of adoption is far better than life on the street scrounging for food and possibly/probably meeting a far worse fate.

None of the shelters are answering phones or e-mails....except the ones that euthanize. The dogs have gotten loose twice now chasing it up a tree....german shepherds....we tried the hose too....and here she is!

I don't feel like she'll have a possibility for adoption as they are so full....the SPCA isn't answering...the refuges have waiting lists. If it weren't for Frick I wouldn't be bothered...but I will NOT risk that baby!

Generally they have time before they euthanize. It isn't immediate, just a possibility if the animal is not adopted. If it is a friendly cat, there is a good chance it will be adopted. :dono
Forget it, I just read your post...sorry!

Bring the cat to the ASPCA if they are no kill. Having the cat with you there might hep plead your case.

Did you try this one??
http://www.fburgspca.org/ its in your area, I know they are all so overwhelmed with pets now, so many people are surrendering them or just letting them go.

When are the shelters not overwhelmed I'd like to know :shakehead
Have you guys taken the cat to a vet to see if he/she is microchipped? Sort of a last-ditch kind of thing... but you never know, someone might be looking for it. :dono
