GRRRRRRR, my neighbor texted me last night about a baby squirrel her friend found. Well I dont live with my cell phone on me at all times. I saw the txt at 2pm today and sent her a message that this baby needs help asap! Well at least the guy is willing to give it up, but they keep putting me off to go get it. First 5;30, now not til 6:30 or 7. Gonna be 24 hours with no heating pad or fluid. They fed it nuts! Not sure how young it is, but the guy said his kids have been playing with it. The poor thing. It has got to be in big trouble by now. Anticipation is killing me but we are at these people mercy.
Well, I will just show up with hydration fluid in hand. I will stuff him in my shirt if he is cold, but if he is warm, I will get fluid in before I leave the driveway. I hope I am not too late.

OK, i got her!!!! the guy was great. He knew that he would not be able to care for this baby. He found things all chewed up in his shed and was cleaning things out and he stumbled upon a nest. he thought they were adults and he kind of shewed them out. the momma took off and the three babies scattered. His dog killed one, one crawed up his leg and the other took off with the momma.
he felt really bad after he knew it was a babies nest.
Anyway, he did the right thing and gave her up to me. She is actually in great shape. This is what boggles my mind. This baby is at least 6-7 weeks old and that is one early litter for the northeast! had to be March 1st babies. That is cold!
Anyway, she is older, but not growling at me. This is good. She is a bit skittish though, as her eyes are wide open. Anyway, the rubber nipple is certainly new to her and she was not thrilled. But she got a little pedialite on her lips and lapped up about 2-3ccs. About an hour later, she took another 3ccs of formula. She is tired and curled up and went to sleep next to her water bottle. I will check on her in another hour or so. She is cute as a button and VERY sweet. I would expect her to be real grumbly at this juvi age. She is not at all.

Glad she is safe! Sorry about the little one that was killed....RIP little angel. You may have just gotten in under that 'fear' wire!

Great save Wonka!!!!!
Speaking of early babies up North.....I have a litter of foxers in my tree....that are at least 8 weeks old. That means they were born in Feb....when it was still well into sub zero temps. They never cease to amaze me.....:thumbsup

You know, we do all of this stuff to keep our babies warm, and how on earth do tiny babies stay warm in the nest when the wind is blowing and it is 30 degrees out? I know mom does not stay with them all day everyday. But if one baby can not keep his temperature up, then the litter of them together can also NOT keep temperature. I always wonder how on earth they stay warm.

News on the baby. I am not so sure I made it under the "fear" wire. This little girl is not afraid of me, but she is afraid of everything else. My pets birds chirping, the microwave going off, my kids walking by. She is not biting at all, she comes right to me, but she is VERY squirrely!
She is alert and wide eyed, but I am worried that she is not eating enough. She is not eager to drink from the nipple. She laps from the end as the drops well up, but I am lucky to get 3-4 cc in her, every 3 hours or so. She has not touched any of the hard food that I gave her. She has a small ripe strawberry, and some Zupreem pellets to munch on. She sure was sniffing the berry, but no bites. I think I will make some booballs today. It has now been about 40 hours since she has seen her mother. I usually get young babies with eyes closed, and seems like each time I get some eyes open babies, they are a bit weak, cold and in trouble. never have I been handed a healthy bright eyed baby. They are hard to convince to eat.

Since she will lap it, if you have a mayonnaise jar lid, put some very warm fv in it and see if she will drink it that way. She looks good!

been in your shoes before, the older babies take a weebit longer to settle in, and then when they do, it seems small things will still upset them..
the feeding will get better..that takes a few days too.
She is so pretty...all that fluffy fur!
Sweet!
Don't cha love it when the finder is willing to do what's best!:alright.gif
