Posting again for Iwonka:
Another baby in distress, she just picked him up, is on her way back to her place with it.
Baby is almost 5 weeks old, eyes just starting to open. Finder's had him one week, has kept baby by a radiator only all week and now baby is icy cold, also shows signs of pneumonia (finder says she saw milk coming out of its nose many times). Finder fed the baby a mixture of milk and egg twice a day all week :( poor baby is very VERY skinny.
Iwonka will administer bactrim soon as she gets home. Also she has formula, and Ultra-boost, Pedia... what would be the best thing to FIRST give this baby? Pedia? Ultra-Boost... weak formula... what first thing to give him, how often and for how long?

WARM BABY FIRST!!! Then I would give pedialyte till morning then try Ultra boost, ensure would be better for about a day then try formula, but maybe the experts have a better idea, this is what I would do. Make sure all liquids given are very warm and go very slowly, dont let the baby eat too much too soon.

Thank you SSM
Spoke to Skul too and Iwonka has already started to rehydrate the baby. He is nothing but skin and bones... absolutely terrible shape...:( and he has that dull white spot in the center of his eyes - the squirrel tears, I believe. That poor little guy has been starved for a week and now has reddish diarrhea too. Finder says "he only lost weight in the last 2 days"... :(
Iwonka says her heart is just broken looking at how bad a shape he's in. From what she described to me it sounds like this poor sweet little guy needs a miracle. Keep the prayers coming. :grouphug

Oh God...many prayers coming. Ultra boost is meant to be added to the fox Valley, not given alone. I would try some 1/2 FV and 1/2 water make the FV very week, and warm. This little one needs both hydration and nourishment...tough call, two hydrations, and then very diluted FV...always in very small amounts to start. I had skin and bones babies and the key is a lot of small feedings throughout the night.

:grouphug :Love_Icon How is the new baby doing :Love_Icon ? Is she a little better, eating well now and settling in? Please post news when you have a moment. :grouphug

I was thinking boost like the ensure, not Ultra boost which is additive for FV Thank you Nancy, I write too fast some times...
Hope the baby is ok......

We have good news! The little girl is not clicking anymore and she seems more lively and interested in FV. She was only letting the food get in her mouth but now she actually tries to eat. All nite I rehydrated her every other hour and gave her weak FV with probiotics also every other hour. This morning her eyes were not white anymore.
Today was cage building day so Mitch came to my house and took the feedings :grouphug for the bunch to relieve me for a day and a vet friend who also came over advised us to sub-q' her and he did it for us. Since then she took a wonderful turn for the better. She still will remain on AB's for 5 days, she received a drop of Imodium last nite as Skul suggested to me and her awful diarrhea stopped. Today she pooped - soft but not diarrhea - and she perked up and THAT is really a miracle. I was COMPLETELY SURE that she would not survive the nite.
I am going to put her on full strength FV +probiotic for the nite feedings and tomorrow morning I will start her on FV+probiotic+Ultraboost. I don't want to tax her little stomach too much too fast.
If she was a little boy Mitch said we should call her Milagro- meaning miracle in Spanish - so she was thinking Milagra... and it ends up we willcall her Mila :Love_Icon

Gee, I'm really not sure that I would put her on full strength FV tonight. You got her 24 hours ago right? AND she was so skinny and cold?
What strength are you feeding her now? I think I would hold off full strength for at least another full day, but that also depends on what she is eating now....JMO.:)

I'm with Nancy -- wait until tomorrow this time to do full strength FV, and wait until at least Monday this time to add any Ultra Boost. Too many fats at once can bring that diarrhea back, big time. :thumbsup

Got it! :thumbsup I will keep her on the watered FV for few more feedings.
I'm really amazing how Mila recovers quickly .. When I first saw her eyes, I was sure she is blind.. then Mitch told me that "white eyes" can be caused by the stress and the pain. I've never seen this before.
I look forward to presenting Mila to you. :flash

white tears may indicate stress, white/blue eyes are nutritional from my experience..
sub Qing always helps bring back the appetite when they are on deaths door..
nice that you have so much help!:thumbsup

She had white/blue eyes! I didn't take picture - I didn't want to stress her more.
Another thing I learned here! xx

:thumbsup :thankyou for clarifying JIT I never was entirely sure of which was what. Considering she'd been fed a mixture of milk and egg all week, not surprised it would be nutritional... poor thing.
You should see how much and well this little girl has progressed, thanks to Iwonka's wonderful intensive care. Hard to believe it's the same squirrel of a few days ago.

What a beautiful little girl. People try--but sometimes try just isn't enough. It's got to be a Yoda moment--a DO. There's SO much information available, no one should feed any animal without first doing a Google check to see what kind of food is needed. Then check again. It's the INFORMATION age after all.
