Hi everyone.

I have been feeding my wild greys and have noticed one of them is having an issue. He seems awkward when he walks. He also seems to be blind in one eye. I noticed about 4 months ago he was not as bad, but he was kind of wobbly when he would sit up and eat his nuts. Well now he cannot even sit up on his back legs to eat. He has to lay on his side and eat or prop himself up against the tree. I put a variety of nuts out for all the wild greys. I feel bad for this one since the others seem to chase him and stuff. He can walk on all four legs, just it seems like he walks uncoordinated and seems off balance. Someone on here mentioned MBD, but I am not sure how
he could get this. He is a wild squirrel and eats what all the others eat and the others are all ok. Not sure if it is something neurologic. Not sure what I could do for him. He will not come near me really as he is wild and afraid naturally. I leave a variety of nuts by the tree for him and he will eat when he can. I know he does not like to come down from the tree when all the other squirrels are around as they chase him. Any ideas what can be wrong with him??? I am worried sick about the poor little guy...

Sounds like a bad infection. Hope somebody will help soon. He may need to be safely captured to inspect and then there are a few things to help depending on how he or she looks.

I would not want to capture this little guy, that would be to traumatic for him. I had a friend who trapped a squirrel who was not right and the poor little thing banged himself all up trying to get out of the cage. It was horrific. I would not do this to this little guy, he would likely end up hurting himself more. I am not sure what is wrong with him. I feel bad for him though. When I see him I always try and give him a nut. We have ALOT of squirrels around that tree when he stays and they chase him back up the tree alot of the times, it is terrible, they are so mean to each other. It is rough to watch.

It is more likely a head injury from a fall. I have a neuro girl, she was a wild, she was neuro as well, most likely from multiple falls over time, and then severely injured a front paw. She was very weak, sounds very similar to what your little one is doing. If he is that bad, he may need help. This little ones paw healed (what is left of it) but she is very neuro and would not make it outside. She has settled in quite well here.

It is possible he did have a fall. I am not sure. It is odd how it slowly progressed though. I do not see him all the time. I am always setting nuts out by the tree he stays in out in front of my neighbors house in case he does come down. He will not go far from the tree at all. There is no way I would be able to even get to him, the other squirrels always chase him up back up the tree. There are ALOT of squirrels in that tree. We have about 7 to 10 that go in that tree. He will come down when the coast is clear and grab a nut and run back up. But some days I do not even see him. I have not seen him now since Saturday. I hope he will be ok...
