Good Evening

I know its been a long while since I have checked in but I got busy and the next thing I knew the time was gone.

Anyhoo, I have a few questions: Male Squirrels once the deed is done for the year they move on right ??

Well the male this year does not seem to be moving on, he is being a real "man" about the bird feeder as well - most trying.

Anyway I know the difference between the male and female. She seems to be very protective of him when I try to chase him out of the bird feeders - I don't try too hard though.

Now I also think he is deaf, I will come up right behind him and talk to him and he will not move or anything then when I move into his eye sight he jumps like 20 ft. and looks at me like "I did not know you were there". I don't know if he has always been like this or if its a recent development. I have been sitting here most of the night putting together in my head his behaviors and I think its been this way always. He is not acting any different it just seems I am noticing it now.

My question - will he stay forever ?? I am also starting to think he is her son, I have never actually seen them, well doing the deed, not like with her Mother several years ago, she was being happy all over the place in front of everyone. :rotfl

Is it does anyone think possible it is her son. I am now just totally confused. I have tried looking online for deaf squirrels and all I get is horrible images and no useful information. Any help or thought would be much appreciated. :thankyou

Male squirrels have been known to travel up to ten or fifteen miles to mate, but they also have a home base, their personal territory, and they tend to stick around it when not mating...... so your boy may just be hanging out at home.

Females choice who they will mate with, even though they have been known to mate with lots of male squirrels over the course of one day....... therefore, we cannot be 100% sure if this particular male is the son of the female that hangs around your house or not.

As far as the hearing issue goes, the way I tested a ferret I had was to clap over her while she did not know I was there or bang on a pot & pan to see if I could get her attention when she was not looking....... she did NOT react or turn --thus we found out she was deaf.
