Found baby Squirrel Friday April 6,2012. Was at Middle School where we have a Dance 1st Sat. of every month and opened closet and was hit by a very foul odor and a squirrel running past me. It was horrible, found a baby squirrel dead, must have fell from the ceiling, where some tiles are missing. Probably was a nest in roof and as they started to crawl fell to concrete floor below, it had to be dead for a least 2 wks., from what I saw. Went home and got shovel, pine sol, listerine spray, cage and net to try and catch the live one. Well, caught the baby boy squirrel & I never saw an animal so traumatized! Going to be a challenge, to win him over and to calm him down. The look in his eyes, I'll never forget, so much fear in this little animal. Well, he's a fighter, doesn't want to cooperate, will not take syringe, but good news he now knows how to drink from bowl, probably, just guessin' 7wks. Was VERY DEHYDRATED!! Would not drink the mixture I got off this site, salt, sugar and warm water, but is drinking tap water now and eating oak acorns from our yard, which I shell and crush fine and tries to nibble on greeny from the yard. Did give some sunflower seeds, just to get something in it's boney body, so sad can feel ribs, very skinny, but since Friday, is starting to gain weight and fur is soft and not a rough spiky fur. Will let me pet him and each day is getting alittle closer to me. He has lots of energy now!
Update on Suma, doing Great!! Have soft released her, every morning she is waiting at the door for her petting, when bad weather, like last night rain brought her in and her cage was taken up by the new squirrel "Dancy". Put her in plastic travel cage and she chewed a hole in. Found her in my daughter's room, looked like Et, hiding in between dolls and stuff animals. Let her back outside for the day. She really showed off when we had family over for Easter, stayed within 20ft., and wouldn't leave. I'm going to post a site for her on facebook, so family and friends can see.

He's doing so much better today, he loves the acorns shelled from our oak trees, small acorns. Dancy, surprised me yesterday and started going to his litter box!:wahoo :wahoo
Thanks,

Question on Dancy, he's got a cut on his back that was small at the beginning, but keeps scratchin' it! When it first appeared (4 days ago), it was a tiny dot, I've put A&D ointment on him, does not like and scratches it off. He has been living durning the day free (outside) and in the evening I call him and put Dancy inside to sleep (cage), but lately since this has not cleared up he's been inside day & night.
Any advice on clearin' this up, I'm going to see if I can attach photos.
Thanks y'all are always so helpful and appreciate your time!!!

I am wondering if the wound is that of a Bot Fly...... you can read about them in the thread listed below and
I will ask two exp rehabbers to stop in and take a look at the pics you posted.

You were right Carolyn, it was a Bot Fly. It wasn't easy to get out, Dancy was so sweet about it, finally got it out. Going to keep him inside for awhile to make sure it doesn't get infected. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING YOUR TIME TO HELP MY BOY!!!
Have A Blessed Day!

just a heads up...
if the bot larva is torn or destroyed during the removal,
there is a big possibility of serious infection, they are toxic to sqs once they leak into sqs body..
it is not advised to remove them unless ABs are on hand and larva is threat to sq.
As a precaution, it is advise to use SMZ-TMP if this does happens.
You can flush the wound with dilute betedine and follow up with neopsporin as Rhapsody has suggested!

:D glad you were able to assist and he was willing to cooperate!
