Simon has several growths on his under belly, that I think are build up tissue from the very bad blisters he had. I am almost afraid to post , don't want anyone to think I don't take of him properly, but sometimes bad things happen.
I am using the A&D twice a day now to keep urine off his skin, no longer need to heal , could these be like a callous?? If you want and need picture I will post , just not pretty....

SSM, I feel safe in saying we are all aware of how well you take care of Simon. We all also understand that at times, even under the best of care, things happen; especially with a squirrel that has special needs.

I think in order for our experts to offer advice pics are sort of necessary, as it is sort of hard to offer recommendations on the best method of remedying the growths without seeing them.

Are they currently open/weeping fluids?
Do they seem painful to him?

It could be that, but you may want to have the vet check to make sure they are not abscesses.
If so they may or may not need drained.
Is he still on the Baytril?

Please remember this is after 10 days of no antibiotic with UTI . Then 10 days of Baytril, 2 baths a day with iodine washed over then SS and now just A&D ointment to keep urine off him, not all gone but 85% better than it was. Still see some small blisters trying to start. These pictures are from after his bath and he is not dry yet and no meds on him. He feels no pain because he has no feeling here remember , no bladder and no bowel control, he does his best pooping and peeing in the tub when the warm water relaxes his muscles.

no abscesses, no more infection only thicker skin where the big blisters were:dono
He is feeling fine, playing, wrestling ,grooming ,eating ,swinging ....... before he was almost black under here, skin was peeling off smelled so bad I was afraid he had gangrene. But he didnt.

Sorry it has been 6 weeks that I have been battling with this, not a couple of weeks, so that is why I keep saying this is the mending look we have here, I shutter when I tell you how bad it was.

SSM have you tried Silvadene cream? I know I'm always suggesting it for everything but it is such a miracle worker.....

yes I do but his skin starts to turn black and hard and it doesn't keep a film like the A&D to block the wet urine he dribbles onto himself, this is a never ending battle and I go back and forth from the silvadene and A&D they both are good for different things and I had him nice and blister free until this UTI and I had no meds for 10 days begging and pleading bathing 3 times a day to get pee off him and it still burned him over night. I can not express him any more, just don't get much and he bruises too easily.

I was thinking corn starch also Jackie but does that work as a liquid barrier?? Maybe i could scotch guard him :rotfl

It might not work as a "barrier" but it would absorb any wetness versus letting it soak into his skin.

ok I'll try it again tomorrow, the silver sivadene.
He is already bathed A&D'd and tucked in for the night. What I was doing before all this started (back in March for those who dont read entire threads:rotfl ) A&D at night and the SS in the morning.

SSM I use baby receiving blankets and cotton burp clothes as the bottom bedding with paralyzed squirrels Changing them every day. Found they stay dryer than with just fleece.

Another quick thought....the bottom of your bath tub.... are those little spots ruff at all?????

Ditto on the baby receiving blankets.
Those are great, it's what was recommended for Kirby and helped a lot,
very absorbent.

Have you seen these areas thicken over time on your squirrels with similar problems??

I am just throwing this out there...
Someone chime in if it is a no no.

The A&d ointment made me think of this; Zeabsorb
antifungal powder instead of cornstarch. A lot of
pediatricians use this on their babies to prevent diaper rash.

Just not sure about possibly inhaling it and an repercussions.

Yes I have used it myself and I love the stuff. This is probably TMI,:o :o but I wear 2 pairs of support hose at work and certain areas can get rather warm...this stuff has saved me many a time from topical yeast infections.

I also know a large gentleman (girlfriend's husband) that manages outdoor foods at the theme parks and has trouble with rashes and chaffing where his legs rub together. This stuff helps a lot.

I just asked Simon if he would wear two pairs of support hoses to help out with this, he just snubbed me and went back to sleep:rotfl
If we don't get any objections maybe I can try it, Thank you. I promise I wont come to your work and start pointing at you :poke :rotfl

Believe me everyone I work with knows I wear two pairs of support hose. They all complain about varicose veins (even the guys) but most won't wear even one pair. I still don't have varicose veins and I am 25 years older than most of them. Some old rules were good.

Now they don't know about the Zeabsorb AF (walmart has it). Shhhhhhhhhhh.
