Hi All,
We have a problem with ants getting into Bob's fresh food dish. Her cage is in an enclosed porch with a brick paver floor. We are currently using a lemongrass based bug spray and have several ant traps behind her cage (where she cant get to them). It seems like everyday we have to move her back inside, move the cage, spray the ants again, then move her back after everything dries up.
Does anyone have any ideas on what we can use to keep them away?

Try Diatomaceous earth. It is natural, will not hurt the squirrel and will kill the ants.

Another natural cure you can use is Downy Dryer Sheets...... just cut and tie one dryer sheet per each cage leg and this will keep the ants away from the food - works like a charm every time.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I will definitely try the dryer sheets, right now actually~
Our only concern is that the ants will track the poison into her food will the DE hurt her in any way if she ingests it?
Thank you so very much~

Our only concern is that the ants will track the poison into her food will the DE hurt her in any way if she ingests it?DE is 100% safe for animals to consume (i use it for my dogs and cat - mixed in their food) and dust it on the squirrels if they need it for mites or fleas.

There is a human grade of DE that is made for both animals & humans to consume.
......... this is the kind I have, great for a lot of human ailments.

In an effort to keep the ants outside the back porch, we placed several Spectracide Spikes in the flower beds outside. We have since discovered that our wild squirrels like the green plastic spikes. One was knocked over, the other was in several pieces about 150 feet away. No sign of the ant bait, but the plastic had been chewed to bits. Needless to say, the remaining spikes have been removed. So far we havent seen any sick wild squirrels, but we are keeping our fingers crossed.
