Hello again everybody. I wrote in another thread about my current situation with Darwin. I haven't really gotten any responses in it lately, so I figured I would start a new one. I really need help with him. Lately, as the days go by he is getting more and more restless. His presence is disrupting the entire house. The cats are acting out and peeing all over the house. They're confused and upset because my door is always shut now. Darwin himself is peeing all over the place. I can go on and on here, but Darwin is a squirrel and just doing what they do. I know this.

Darwin was raised by me alone and I overwintered him. He is healthy and I see no real reason he can't be released. He is attached to me, but he's a smart boy and I think he will catch onto the outdoor life reasonably quickly. I would do a soft release at my house, but my road is too busy for him. I am going to miss him terribly, but I need to listen to the signals he is giving me and offer him his freedom. He deserves it. My one, huge question is if I can't release him here what should I do? I wrote that I need a NY rehabber because I would love for him to go to one and make release buddies. Help us please!

Okay! Tomorrow I will PM you with some names of Long Island rehabbers I know of and can safely recommend. You've got time, though -- you need good leaf cover out there before you release your little guy so he can stay safe from the damn hawks that are all over the place in our area. In the meantime we'll see if we can find another rehabber who is overwintering (I'm not) and has some buddies for Darwin. :thumbsup
