Just finished building our southern flying squirrel habitat.

He is urinating alot on the wood frame.

Is there a safe way to seal it to prevent the smell and uncleanliness of urine soaked wood?

Thanks for any thoughts

We used a water-based sealer to seal Christine's cage. She has chewed it & shows no ill effects. Thompson, I think it was.

I don't know about SFS, but Eastern Grey urine does not usually smell bad. Last summer towards the end of the breeding season the boys seemed to get musky and stinky for a couple of weeks, but otherwise I don't even notice the smell. Plus there is so little of it, anyway. It's nothing like dog, cat or human urine smells. Try doing without if this is your first time, and see if it you can even notice a difference before dumping cleaning products on.

I find that the squirrel bedding, etc. has a pleasant, sweet and slightly woody smell. They are truly the sweetest smelling creatures that you could share a home with :)
