Mom called me today, to save a baby squirrel that she found who was cornered by her cat. The little guy sems to be between 5-8 weeks old... I think... His fur is very soft, his underbelly is all white and furry, and I can see little teeth when he yawns.

There is a small amount of blood arpund the nostrils, and a timy puncture on his cheek. I've cleaned the puncture, and am unsure about the nostril.bleedimg. It seems to be from head trauma. My limited experience as a ve t twch says give water and warmth, and I am doimg that much... But I really want to speak to a rehabber via phone to get the details sorted out.
If anyone knows of anyone in the flippin, arkansas region, I would appreciate a reference. I have given the guy a water dish and a couple pieces of dog food and some dried fruits in a kennel with a box and towel and shredded paper, but he seems to have no intrest in drinkin or eating.
Thank you to all who can help. I am feeling helpless right now, as my experiwnce with small animals is extensive in the domestic range, and severely lackin in squirrel territory :/

Hi Poettiq. I hope you check back here. You posted in the right place and someone knowledgable should see your post soon. They will tell you, you'll need antibiotics. I don't know the dosage you need, but the med a lot of people swear by is Baytril. There's another called SMZ-TMP (don't know what it stands for) that will do if Baytril isn't available. You'll definitely need to give a weight in grams so the experts can help you figure out how much to give. Here's a thread on emergency care for baby squirrels. http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21626
It includes a recipe for homemade pedialyte and info on the proper technique for syringe feeding. There's a danger of aspiration when syringe feeding, so it's a good idea to pay attention to going *s l o w l y*. I wish I had more info for you, but I know some experts will be coming online before long and they pay attention to this forum. Good luck. Please don't give up.

Hey Poettiq, here's some info a person gave me when I needed help once. Maybe these folks can help. See, it says 'calls accepted 24/7.' Good luck.

"Foothills Animal Rescue - we are a federally permitted volunteer group dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned wildlife encompassing the entire area of upstate South Carolina and part of Hendersonville, North Carolina. Twi, thanks so much, I have given 1.5cc homemade pedialyte, and found numbers for all the local rehabs.
My fuzzy grey friend is resting snug in my lap wrapped up in a nice toasty cloth. I will be checkin him every 2 hours to make sure he's warm. I actually discovered that his nostrils were 95% blocked by blood clots, and cleared them a little while ago, and he is breathing much better!
I really appreciate your help, and encouragement.
