I introduced myself & explained our situation here:

http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?p=739033

I have to go to work so I don't have time to write it all out again. We ordered the Fox Valley this morning, but I only got an order confirmation (no email yet) and was not made to pay, so I am not sure how that works or how long we should take to get it.
At the 4:30 a.m. feeding, we noticed signs of diarrhea around the baby's bottom. Also, she seems to have a decrease in appetite and isn't as willing to take the formula.
What should we do?
I have to work until 8 p.m. tonight but my DH and kids will be around and I will have them follow up on this thread.
Also, we noticed signs of diarrhea again at the 10 a.m. feeding. Help!

I read your post yesterday. It is likely the esbilac, which is why we dont use it anymore.

I would put this baby on a dehydration fluid (pedialyte) only for the next few feedings to flush all of that stuff out of her system. After that, I would put her on the goats milk formula minus the heavy cream - 3 parts fresh goats milk and 1 part full fat yogurt until the FV comes in. I would also slightly dilute the above goats milk with a little water at first.

Where can you find goat's milk if you live in a small town? We have Walmart & Winn-Dixie here.

What type yogurt? The only kind we can find in full-fat is not unflavored/unsweetened.

Wow, well goats milk can be purchased as a powder than can be reconstituded. You can always get it at an organic sort of market, like whole foods or Trader Joes. Do you know anyone with a goat?
Full fat yogurt...Yo-baby would be good, but if you had to get whole milk plain yogurt and add a tad of applesause or something to sweeten it? That would be ok.

MEYERBURG Goat's Milk in the can is at Walmart next to the evaporated canned milk.
Meyerberg also sells fresh in the carton near the cold milk and half and half at Walmart...

the can needs to be diluted 50-50 water, make into cubes and freeze, thaw as needed...the fresh in the carton GM does not need to be diluted...you should also freeze it into cubes, GMilk has a short life before it sours.
Either canned or fresh is about $4.

You are getting great advise...
Nick at Fox Valley will send you a bill in the mail!:thumbsup

Thank you and Welcome to TSB!

I found the goat's milk in the can (will dilute 1:1 with water & freeze most of it) and also the yogurt.
We fed Pedialyte 5 cc at about 2pm today & about 5:30 today.
My husband is mixing up the goat's milk formula now.
Will keep you all posted!
Baby weighs about 81 grams now. She weighed 84 before she peed on the scale. ;) Pee was nice & light in color & prolific.

We mixed up 3 parts goats milk (after reconstituted it from the can) to 1 part yogurt, and gave a feeding just now of half goat's milk formula & half esbilac. After the two feedings of pedialyte earlier today, she was famished and took nearly 8 cc ravenously! I have never seen her eat that good before! We stimulated her and bathed her with a warm wet rag & then dried her off & put her back on the heating pad. She's already looking sleepy! We will feed again in 4 to 5 hours.

Keep up the good work, an remember when you get your Fox Valley formula you'll want to transition the baby very slowly to it. Her little system has had a lot of changes over the past couple of days and we don't want to mess her GI tract up completely. You can do 1 part FV to 3 parts goat's milk formula the first day....then half FV, half GM the 2nd day.....3 pars FV to 1 part GM the 3rd day, and by the 4th day she is on full FV only -- mixed 1 part powder to 2 parts very warm water, of course. :thumbsup

Our Fox Valley formula should be coming in Friday.
We bought the goat's milk in the can & have been feeding the goat's milk formula made up of 3 parts goat's milk & 1 part vanilla-flavored yobaby yogurt. We haven't added any cream yet. Should we?
She is still having a bit of diarrhea. We are going to buy the children's Imodium today & give her 2 drops.
She does appear to be gaining now & has a good appetite.
At 4 a.m. she had 6 mL, at 9 a.m. she had 7 mL, and just recently at 12:30 she had 8 mL and seemed like she would have taken more, but she only weighs 93 grams & I did not want to overfeed her.
Will post pics later when internet is better (since the weather is bad now).
She has a name now too! :D

oh for CUTE!!! Just LOOK at her!!!
Beautiful baby!!

You may notice that once you get her on the goats milk for a period of time...or the FV the runny poohs will go away. Also...if she isnt dehydrated I'd stop with the pedialite too. Too much pedialite can cause diarrhea....:thumbsup

How long is the goat's milk (from the can, with water added) okay in the fridge? How about the goat's milk formula? Oh and we stopped the pedialyte the other day.

2 days tops. I mixed mine with the water ( i used canned evap as well) and poured the mixture into the ice cube trays. I froze it then cracked the cubes into a plastic covered dish and just kept them in there...( mostly because my family would pull out a tray of frozen goats milk...looking for ice...and go....AWWWW....what the *beep* is this???....MOMMMM!!!!)
I waited until after they thawed....( a good method was to figure out about how many cubes they would need...throw one more in for good measure and keep in the fridge for the next feeding....that way you always have a batch thawed).....then add the yogurt. I never did add cream...but a lot of people do.
Ive used the goats milk mixture on both Reds and Fox squirrels....they both did very well on it.
I just cant get over how dang cute she is....just love her!
Have you tried block yet??
Eyes open and top teeth...time to start! :alright.gif
