I have an older gray Squirrel she is going on about 12yrs old. She has been looking like she is having trouble passing urine. Can squirrels get kidney stones?

Her diet is not what it use to be. She has become very picky in her old age. She likes broccoli and artichokes. I can't get her to eat yogert to save my life! She has lower abd. swelling and is rubbing herself ( urethra) on things and I can tell she is not feeling good. She had this a short time ago and had some blood in her urine. gave her a shot of antibiotic (don't ask me what it was spilling is not my stronge point so be kind!) She is not very Vet friendly! I do have a great Vet. but it is so stressfull on her. I do feel very lucky to have a 12yr. old sweety! It is going to kill me when something happens to her. I never thought I could love the little thing as much as I do!:Love_Icon

Urinary track infections (UTI) can cause other problems if not addressed.
Is her urine darker? smellier? Is she drinking more water or less?
Do you have access to antibiotics??
Baytril is used often, would your vet be willing to give it to you with out seeing her?
Why do you have her, is she compromised in any way?
12 years wow :thumbsup

I can see if I can get some from my Vet. I don't think he would have a problem giving it to me. I may have a problem giving it to her she does not like to be held. It is a long story about me still having her. I got her when she was a pinky and she never was put out to get use to taking care of her self.

:wave123 Hi Little-Bits mama Welcome to TSB :Welcome
Just a few Questions. Where is the Swelling? When has she Pee last? You might wont to put some White Fleece, or White Teeshirt in the cage with her. That way you can see if she has Blood in her Urine and if she is Peeing.
Now Yes Squirrels Can get Kidney Stones, and Bladder Stones. What it sounds like to me is she can't Pee. She need the Vet to Express her Bladder. Their could be some kind of Blockage.
If you feel her Tummy is it Hard? (Explain if not) Does she make any noise when feeling her tummy?
Be for your Vet Closes for the Weekend. I would Call him and take her in Immediately! She Will be in Trouble by Tomorrow if she does not Pee.
Now if you do get some pictures. Please take one of the Swelling on her Belly and her face. Her eyes tell allot.
welcome.... :)
i'm hoping that you've seen your vet ... a blockage is an emergency ... you don't want her bladder to burst....
mrs skul is one of our top, most experienced people.... please listen to her....
