Just yesterday, I noticed a bald spot on Momo's front right leg (under the leg, what you would call her 'armpit' area). I feel terrible :(
Please see below for a pic. I figure it is either one of two things:
1) Self mutilation/overgrooming (the only thing I would think that would say it's not this is that I have never seen her overgroom this area or get obsessive about grooming. And my fiance and I keep a close eye on her)
2) Her nest box hole is too small (she likes hanging out in the opening of the nest box with her arms out of the hole and her hind legs in the box)
I am going to take the following courses of action: widen her nest box hole and start bringing in branches and things from the outside, since it is warmer out, to give her new stuff to play with.
Does anyone have any other ideas? I feel horrible for my poor baby :(
Here is the obligatory overview of Momo's daily life, to help with a diagnosis:
We keep her in a fairly large cage - I'd say it's about 4-5 feet tall and 2-3 feet around. She has lots of toys, nest pouches, perches, and so on. I move things around a little every week when I clean the cage to keep things interesting and different for her. She gets at minimum 2 hours of out of cage time daily.
We feed her fresh veggies and fruit every day, as well as yogurt. She has a small seed container available to her in her cage as well, and I keep the seeds dusted with Rep-Cal as a supplement. She always has fresh water. There are also two other calcium chews in her cage. We feed her small pecan pieces and in-shell pumpkin seeds as treats.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thanks!!
